One single moment had marked my life no longer as my own, but as a halted work in progress. Frozen never moving forward. The sizzling sensation spreading throughout my person contained a much more sinister nature than I had realized. It had claimed my being. Contaminating it with a poison so vile, that it lay waste to my very essence; plaguing my heart with darkness along with it. I hadn't realized all of this at the time, but I had begun the Change, and there was no going back.
The Change
A prickling heat spread throughout my body, causing beads of sweat to form. The intensity of the heat began to increase, as waves of pressure descended upon me. Suddenly feeling lightheaded I collapsed on the ground. Crack. A sharp pain shot up my arm, forcing a yelp of discomfort to escape my lips. The fire growing within my person was becoming unbearable. It was though liquid lava was surging through my veins, consuming my soul with the flames. Tremors ravaged my body causing me to hug my knees tightly to my chest. The sheer agony wreaking havoc upon me left me in tears. Fear bubbling up inside, an extreme sense of panic began to overwhelm me. A silent whisper reverberated through my skull.
I won't die, I won't die, I won't die.
A feverish prayer I sent up into the ether, yet it did nothing to soothe my inner turbulence. Clawing their way up my throat, the blood-curdling shrieks I suppressed tried desperately to escape. Oblivion is unavoidable, and despite having that knowledge, the survival instinct engrained deep within had me clinging to life with all that I had left. The familiar metallic taste of blood trickled into my mouth. A high pitched wail thundered against my skull, causing a steady stream of the sticky red liquid to ooze from my eyes and ears. Forcing my eyelids shut, I attempted to distance myself from the agony I currently endure. The pain radiating through my body seeped into every ounce of my being, feasting on what remained of my strength reserves. Snap. A splintering of tendons and ligaments, allowing deep fissures to formulate under the surface. The metamorphic changes altering my being were beyond comprehension. The tension escalating throughout my body was slowly shattering my bones, leaving me a shrivelled heap of my former self. Although I was undergoing immense physical torment, it was nothing compared to the battle taking place in my head. Assaulted with urges unlike I had ever felt before, everything fell out of focus. A seemingly endless pit of hunger to which I felt was devouring me from the inside out. The urge to decimate the world to ashes took control, as an ever-growing ball of white-hot rage shot through me. Energy pooling at my fingertips, I felt as though I was capable of anything, and would stop at nothing to secure power. Unable to hang on any longer, I launched into an endless loop of earsplitting screams. As I laid there on the ground, writhing in incomprehensible pain, I realized that my body was no longer my own. My life had reached its end. And yet, deep down I knew my journey was not over. This was only the beginning.
Author's Note: Hey guys! Hopefully, you've enjoyed the chapter. Make sure to leave comments or suggestions, and feel free to message me on here as well. It's hard to believe that I started writing this story back in 2012 and I still haven't finished it! I think I owe it to 14-year-old Alisa to give it another go. So, this time around I will be attempting to complete it and give it the ending it deserves. If you'd like to see where the story goes from here stick around for the adventure, it's going to be a bumpy ride!
