I was running so fast that my heartbeat (if I had one) was beating at a million miles an hour. 'I never thought I would've had to run for so long as fast as I am.' I thought to myself. Then I saw the line that would end it all. I ducked and ran faster. 'I never thought this be the end for me.' I crossed the line and started slowing down. I came to a slow stop. I looked back and I began to shed tears of joy. 'I won. I finally won. I kicked all of their asses!'
My friends all started crowding around me. I have never felt so proud of myself. I won first place in the 5k. I have trained so hard for this so I've really earned it. I ate healthy, I ran 3 miles everyday. Thank God I made it.
This was blissful life of the 21st century.
After the race (and all the "Congrats" thrown at me), I finally gathered all my things, put on my sweats and started making my way home. The walk was brisk one and the sun was beginning to get a little shy behind the clouds in the sky.
As I entered my apartment building, I noticed my neighbor, Garrett. "Hey Garrett!" I shouted a little to get his attention, he's a little deaf in one ear. Freak accident when he was little is what he said happened. Garrett jumped a little when I tapped his shoulder. "Hi hun. How was the big race??" He asked me. He was like a big brother to me. I didn't have any family so he was the closest thing to family I have. "It went really well. I got 1st place!" " That's awesome kiddo! I knew you could do it. I'm glad you finally achieved that goal you've been working so hard for!" "Thanks Garrett. I'm gonna go a take a nap now. I think I've more than earned one haha!" He laughed and gave me hug, "Okidokie kiddo."
I entered my apartment threw my bag onto the floor and walked over to my couch after locking the door. I took a short, cold shower to relax my muscles and then got into my favorite pjs. I climbed into bed and curled up with my comforter. I slowly drifted to sleep.
Little did I know, my life was about to change.
