The overheated mother ran quickly in anger past her 4 children playing on the over-sized living room floor and out the door. She jumped in her car, sped off down the quiet suburban street and didn't look back. She could barely see through her tears as she raced her silver family minivan towards her only place of solace, the lonely, run down park on the edge of town.
"I can't do this anymore! Lord, you said You'd never put more on me than I can bear! I can't bear this! Why do You keep putting these things on me, I can't bear it! I just can't, not another day of it! Please..." she was now sobbing uncontrollably and screaming at God inside the family van; "...please God, just bring me home!"
She sped into the parking lot of the old park and quickly found a parking spot. She held onto the steering wheel and sobbed. After a few moments, which seemed like an eternity to her, she sat back, upright in the drivers' seat and took a deep breath in then out. She began to pray to the Lord and ask Him for His forgiveness for yelling at him in anger as the throbbing in the palms of her hands reminded her what she was mad about. She felt as if she had arthritis of the hands when she finally loosened her fingers from the steering wheel. She continuously stretched them in out, making a fist each time, as she tried to regain feeling in them. She peered into the rearview mirror to examine her neck; which was also throbbing. Sure enough, as soon as she laid eyes on the four scratches that now designed her neck she began to weep again. Trying to maintain her composure, she ran her fingers over the four rough, nasty scratches on her neck. The scratches were now raised and felt as disturbing as they looked.
As she reached over to open the glove compartment to retrieve a tissue a sudden loud knock on the glass almost made her lose bodily fluids while feeling as if she was going to jump out of her skin. She quickly snapped her throbbing neck and head around to see a familiar face staring back at her through her driver side window. She was relieved to see that it was only her good neighbor and friend, Nakita, standing outside her window holding a box of tissue. Before she rolled down her window, she took a good look around the vehicle.
"Come 'on T, it's alright, roll your window down or let me in.", her neighbor said, taking a quick look around herself.
Tasha quickly unlocked the doors to allow Nakita to join her inside her vehicle.
"Did you call the police?! Have you seen my kids?! Are they alright!? He didn't take them did he?!", she started blurting out questions as quickly as they came to her mind.
"Whoa, slow down T, your kids are fine, they are at my house and your husband is gone. I think he mentioned going to replace the two windows you busted out of his truck." Nakita paused for a moment to take a look at her friend's face; which showed that she was obviously sobbing moments ago. With her head cocked to the side she continued, "Now, what you go and do that for? You know how he feels about that truck.....his momma bought it for him."
Tasha turned to look at her neighbor for a moment, "I know, that's why I should have busted all the windows." Nakita couldn't help herself and laughed out loud, "Now you know if you would have busted all those windows out, you wouldn't be sitting here right now..."
"And you wouldn't either." Tasha interrupted.
"Oh I know, I'd be sitting in jail, with you!", she said as they both quickly shared a light moment of laughter. "It's hot in this dang van, let's go sit on that bench so we can get some fresh air and talk. I got something for you that I think would help you out." Nakita reached for the handle, but stopped when she looked at Tasha's face. Tasha appeared too nervous to get out of the vehicle. "OK, I understand. It's alright honey, he's not here... your husband is gone. Why are you so afraid of him, he's not God you know. He only does what you cause him and continue to allow him to do."
