When I woke up, it's long before the sun is to rise. My entire body is sore. I got up quietly, ignoring the pain. My mind already set off to making the decision of leaving or not.

On one hand, I'm bruised pretty badly and I didn't want people to be nosy and ask questions. On the other hand, maybe I could escape him for a few days if I leave. I would regret it if he found me, or when I'd come back, but was it worth it to be rid of him for a while?

I grabbed some shirts and pants from my dresser and creeped downstairs in my usual fashion. I'm shoving my stuff into my backpack when I hear his yelling. He must've heard me.

I grab my bag and run out, closing the door behind me. I run in the direction of school. There has to be someone there who'll let me hide out. Except I don't know anyone.

My father doesn't dare leave the house yet. He wouldn't leave while he looked so "indecent".

I stopped running after about five blocks. Two blocks away from the school. I look around for any safe haven. No luck so far. I keep going for the school.

When I get there, I'm alone. It's too early for anyone to be there yet. I result to walking the halls alone until teachers show up.

Somehow, with my luck, the first person I see there is Dave fucking Strider. He hasn't seen me yet so I turn and head the opposite direction.

"Hey, [Y/N]!"

Shit.

I turn back and sigh. "What do you want?"

He's walking towards me. "Can't I chat with you? Woah, what happened to you?" His hand reached for my face. I backed away before he could touch me.

"Nothing. I fell."

"This isn't just some fall. It looks like you were hit.." He cocked his head to the side, concern appearing on his face. "[Y/N].. Is there something going on at home?"

"No, everything is fine." My voice wavered. He's the first one to come to that conclusion and voice it. Maybe leaving the house was a mistake.

"If there's something going on, I want to help you."

I look at him, trying to peer behind his shades. "I don't want to talk here. Can we talk after school? Maybe at your place?"

He slowly nodded. "Yeah.. let me just text my Bro." He pulled out his phone and quickly sent a text. "We don't know each other, but I'm always there for my friends. Even if it means my death."

I gave him a puzzled look. "Friends?"

"Well, yeah. We're friends."

I try to search his face for any hidden motive. But in his normally-stoic expression I saw honesty. I just nodded and walked away. "I'll see you in art."

"Yeah.. see you in art."

I ended up missing art. And every one of my classes. I hid in the ventilation ducts in the girls bathroom the entire day. I'd used the toilet as a stool and lifted myself up. Of course I crawled in a bit, so I wasn't right at the edge. At seventh period, I waited for there to be five minutes left of school before I came down. I headed for the front of the school to wait for Dave.

The bell rang just as I walked out the doors. And there was my father. Standing on the sidewalk. I go back inside and look for Dave. I even shout his name a few times.

I saw his blonde hipster hair and pushed through the crowd. I grabbed his hand to stop him.

"We have to go out the back. Now." I pulled him in the opposite direction.

"Wait, my Bro is waiting for us in the front." He pulled me back.

"And my father is out there." I look at him pleadingly, hoping he could see the desperation in my eyes.

He nodded. "I'll text my Bro and tell him to come to the back."

I sighed gratefully and led him to the back.

It took a couple minutes to get through to the other side. I look around to make sure he wasn't there then follow Dave to a truck.

He lets me get in first so I sit between him and his.. rather muscular older brother. I notice he's wearing pointed anime-esque shades. I look him up and down, taking in his appearance. Dave gets in next to me and glares at his brother.

"Did you really have to wear that tank top? I swear, every time I mention a girl you have to make yourself all attractive and shit."

His brother chuckled. "Of course. It's the only way to make a first impression." He pulled out of the parking space and headed down the road.

I didn't pay attention to where we were going until we reached the busier part of the city. "You live far from the school."

Dave opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted. "Yeah. I don't want anyone to find my place too easily. Especially horny teens who watch my content. I'm sort of a celebrity."

"BRO!"

I just look at him in wonder. "Oooh, what do you do?"

"BRO DON'T!"

"I run a porn site."

My face got red and I stared at the road without saying anything. Bro laughed and ignored the shouting from Dave.

He pulled into a parking garage and parked in a marked off space. He got out and held out a hand to help me. I carefully take it and get out of his truck.

I manage to say, "Thank you for having me over."

"No problem." He flashed a smile and let go of my hand.

He walked away and I looked at Dave.

"Is he always like this?"

"Only around girls."

I slowly nodded then followed Bro.

The three of us went up in an elevator then down a hallway to an apartment. Bro unlocked the door and went inside. When I went in, the place was a mess. These weird puppets were everywhere, snack trash took up the rest of the floor space, it was a disaster.

"How did you manage to do this in such little time?"

"We have our ways." He shrugged it off. "Now come on. We can talk in my room." Dave put his hand on my back and led me away.

I let him take me to his room. I sat down on his chair and he sat on his bed. He looked at me. "Alright, now spill."

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I didn't say anything for a few moments. I tried to string together the right words. Should I even tell him? He's still just a stranger.. I started slowly, "So, this has been going on for years, and I can't stop it. My father has been blaming me for my mother's death. He's been hitting me. It hasn't been to bad, but last night I did something without his permission. I deserve this." I kept my eyes closed and faced downward, hoping that the heat rising in my cheeks would go away.

He didn't say anything. He didn't move. I was scared he was going to do something terrible. I heard the springs in his mattress squeak, and then felt a pair of arms around me. My first instinct was to back away but he wouldn't let me.

He spoke softly. "I know what that's like. I know it's tough. You can stay here whenever you want to be away from him. I won't tell my Bro, cause that's not my thing to tell. When you're ready, you can tell him and we can all take care of this. But this is something that needs to be taken care of. Got it?"

I leaned into him and returned the hug. "Thank you.. Can I stay here, just for tonight? I need a day away from him. I won't get in your way, and I'll behave."

He nodded. "Just chill in here and I'll make an excuse to Bro." He pulled away and left the room.

I touched my face. I had hardly noticed that I had tears falling down my cheeks.

A/N This chapter doesn't feel too in-character to me but I wanted this bonding moment. Everything also felt kinda rushed. I'm not too happy with this chapter.
