Scarlett dumped her backpack on the floor of her room and started pacing. Any wish of mine will come true! Any wish! Any wish! The voice inside grew louder and louder.
"Any wish," she whispered. "I wish... I wish my room was fashionable!"
Her rickety wooden bed vanished and a huge, luxurious white single bed appeared with her name engraved on the headboard. It was decorated with sheets and pillows with scarlet roses against a sea of blue. The walls painted themselves cream, the edges of the doors and windows white. Pink curtains hung from them and a fuzzy blue rug appeared on the floor, whose tiles were now cleaning and repainting themselves. The drab old brown closet disappeared, replaced by a baby blue and pink striped one. She tentatively opened the door and gasped in delight. Instead of her ratty T-shirts and jeans, this closet held flowing summer dresses, cool tie-dyed shirts, trendy ripped jeans plus pair after pair of shoes: summer sandals, cute boots... And on top of that, an entire accessory collection- bracelets, necklaces and earrings, all of them her style.
She stood in the center of her room, marvelling at it all. She pinched herself and winced- but that wince was soon replaced by a huge smile stretching from ear to ear. This was real. This was all real.
She had powers; she had magic. Because of this shooting star, anything, anything she said would come true. It was all sinking in, all falling into place now. This wasn't some crazy coincidence like the sky turning blue.
With one simple wish, her life could be utterly perfect.
