It was a beautiful night. A truly beautiful night. I stared out the window. I couldn't sleep but it didn't matter to me since the moon was so stunning that I almost forgot to think. I took a deep breath and enjoyed the smell of the frosty forest even though it was not winter yet, I knew it was soon to come. I glanced at the clock hanging on my wall. Midnight at last. I knew I had to sleep but I was just too caught up in the beauty of that moment. But something was to interrupt the peace. The trees bent as some creature made it's way trough the forest. I couldn't quite figure out what it was exactly. Maybe I was just so tired that I started seeing things. Maybe... but most likely not. No something was there. I was certain. The creature did resemble a wolf but the shape didn't quite match. I couldn't figure out what it was since it walked on two legs like a human being but was way to tall to actually be one. 'Enough!' I said loudly. I had to be imagining things. I took one last look but then decided to just go back to bed. Laying down instantly gave me an extremely cozy feeling. I thought about the creature a little more before falling in to a deep slumber.
Slowly I opened my eyes as a gleam of light struck them. 10 o'clock. I got up, stretched and walked over to my pet, Mr. Turtles. "Good Morning, tiny", I said while lifting him up. "Let's get downstairs and have some breakfast, shall we?" I took the stairs straight to the kitchen. "Good Morning, Grandma" "Good morning, sweetheart", she said in her old lady voice, smiling. "You didn't sleep well last night did you, Gloomy.." "I'm fine, Grandma.!", I said soft put persistent. "Here have some tea" her wrinkly hands passed me a cup of hot green tea. "Thank you" I smiled and sat down. "I'm guessing your frog wants some salad?" "He is still a turtle Grandma" "Right, right. Explains the name" she started laughing which turned into a loud cough soon after. "Are you okay??" I got up quickly. "I'm alright sweetheart. Sit, sit I'll go get the salad" "I can get ..." I couldn't finish my sentence before she went out to the garden to get some vegetables for my pet. A few minutes later Grandma came back. "Here you go, Mr. Turtles", she whispered laying the food in front of him. "You really didn't have to do this... I could have..." "oh nonsense", she interrupted me. "You didn't sleep enough. I can tell. Don't think you can hide anything from your wise grandmother", she grinned. "Just because I'm old doesn't mean I stop noticing things!" "I know", I replied smiling.
"Hey I'll go out for a while and get some groceries. Do you need anything?" "The list is right here. Thank you" I took the list. "No Problem" I gave her a kiss on the cheek. "Take care of Mr. Turtles for me", I said closing the door behind me. I walked through our little garden towards the tiny gate and then straight to our small town shopping area.
The day passed quickly. I saw the sun sinking on the horizon but decided to walk the longer way home, through the forest. On its border I picked some daisies. They're mine and grandmas favorite so I knew she'd be happy if I brought her some. I heard a noise. Almost as if a tree got ripped out and then an even louder sound. A shot maybe? I knew going deep into the forest wasn't safe especially when there where hunters but I just couldn't resist. I slowly made my way through the bushes when I noticed big red paw prints. Blood. It was blood. Was it the creature I saw the night before? *PANG* that noise again. It was a shot I was sure this time. I started shaking but my curiosity forced me to continue walking. I followed the prints deeper and deeper into the dark forest. I heard people shouting. "There it is, follow me" the voices where distant. I got scared I turned left and right to make sure no one was following. I stumbled over a root and fell. Ouch, I scratched my knee. Then I saw something. Something covered in dark brown fur. I gasped. I held my hand over my moth quickly but too late, I was noticed. I heard some short breaths but they weren't mine. Suddenly two big bright yellow eyes gleamed through the bushes. I froze. The eyes kept staring before a voice got loud. "I think I got it!", They shouted. The manly voice was closer this time. The creature lifted his stare and looked in the voice's direction. I used that moment to get up and run as fast as I could, leaving all my belongings behind. It was the creature. I was certain. The leafs and roots cracked under my feet while the moon started rising. I kept running until reaching our garden gate. I looked back and started catching my breath. Something was out there. Someone maybe?
