No ordinary taxi ride

A small, stocky man gets out of the car. He grabs my suitcase with a sickening grin.

"Hello, my dear." His yellow teeth glint in the dim light. I feel the need to break free, run away and never come back. But I square my shoulders, and step inside the narrow seat. I search for any telltale signs that this car is not a normal cab. But it looks harmless. The driver slams the door shut.

"So where do you want me to take you?," he wheezes.

"A-airport, thanks." I manage to squeeze out. He nods once, and starts racing along the highway like a maniac. Which he probably is, I realize, if he's a kidnapper. I shake my head violently to clear my mind. Stop, Nadine, this early morning is getting to you. Of course everything is alright, you're going to Paris.

"By the way, I'm Lane." He pauses and glances at me, then he chuckles. I can't reply. Lane is just so close to Lana (My fake ID). Stop it! It's just a coincidence... nothing to get all hyped up about. With that soothing thought, I fall asleep.

Half an hour later, I jolt awake. Why aren't we at the airport yet! I stare at my surroundings. Still on the highway......

"Excuse me, Lane. When will we be at the airport?" Lane stares through the dashboard, then laughs that malevolent laugh.

"Any minute now, sweetheart, any minute." It unnerves me severely when he laughs like that, as if he is privy to knowledge I'm not. I jiggle my knees, facepalm myself for being stupid, stare at the watch.... you know, the norm. Finally, we arrive at the busy airport. He didn't kidnap me after all! Stupid phobias. I should really get that checked out.

Lane gets out of the car and hands me my suitcase. I'm already feeling that travel anxiety.

"Thanks so much for taking me! Gotta go or I'll miss my flight... bye!" With that, I fly away from the car in a rush. That's how happy I am to get away from that man.

"Have a safe flight to Paris!," I vaguely hear Lane call out.

Wait a minute, I think as the sliding doors open, emitting the air condition. I did not tell him where I was going. I also didn't pay him! After all that fuss about extra money, he lets me go without paying anything!!? This is getting stranger by the second. I will admit that I'm scared. He also knew my name.

But I can't let this bother me now. I roll my shoulders, and stride to the next step of this endless journey..
