The six hours went by really fast, as I slept almost the whole time, but when I awoke, I felt super drowsy, probably from all those drugs.
A nurse walked me out into the simple & almost empty waiting room where Elijah was waiting to take me home.
I smiled to him & the nurse helped him get a grip on my waist to help me to his jeep. Elijah had a good hold on me, but I could hardly feel it. It sent shivers up my side rather than pain, which was the perfect change.
I refused to take a wheelchair, but the nurse had told me I had internal & external bruising & three fractured ribs.
Elijah led me to his jeep as carefully and slowly as he could. I could feel a bit of pain getting in, but I was so full of medication I could hardly know what was happening.
We drove in complete silence. I could tell Elijah had a lot going through his mind, I decided not to question it or break his concentration.
I waved to my family as Elijah led me upstairs to my room in the attic. My parents and brother had the third floor and my sister had the basement.
As soon as I go into my room, I flopped down onto my queen bed, instantly regretting it while my side started to ache. Elijah rushed over as soon as he noticed.
"Oh gosh! Cherry, are you okay?"
He gave me that nickname when we were seven. Probably because of my cherry red hair, that & my name never seemed to suit me right... Cynthia. So Elijah came up with Cherry.
"Y-yeah, I'm alright." I hoarsely whispered, hoping he'd believe me.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I am. Lets just put on a movie." I said, trying to change the subject.
He mumbled a quick okay & put batman on. Being one of my favorite movies, I didn't question his choice.
He grabbed a big bag of Cheetos & two cans of Dr. Pepper for us. He turned off the lights and scrambled into bed and snuggled up beside me.
We finished our snacks and I would drift in and out while Elijah stayed focused on the movie. It was almost over when Elijah decided to speak up.
"Hey, uh, Cherry?"
"Hum?" I wasn't in the mood for talking.
"C-can I uh. Can I-I mean uh..." He stuttered.
I shifted to look at him, noticing a spark gleaming in his eye. I could see he was nervous, he was shaking slightly so I decided to calm him down.
I grabbed his thin, muscular arm and wrapped it around me, ignoring the shock I got in my side when I turned to face away from him.
I knew it was all he needed, as he stopped sputtering and shaking & got comfortable while turning off my tv with the remote which lay beside him.
"""""
It was completely dark & I was almost asleep, & I could tell Elijah had been for a whole by his light, shallow breathing, but I could hear him muttering words... I brought my ear closer to listen.
"I'm sorry, okay?"
He repeated it a could more times, & his breathing began to get rapid and uneasy. I flipped around to wake him up & stopped when I felt my side crack. I tried to keep my sobs quiet as I lay helplessly, but Elijah woke instantly.
"Oh god, Cherry!" Elijah whispered and helped me lay back down.
He scampered off to grab me pain killers right away.
