The weight of a loss

Chapter 4

3 days later Kate could finally go home but she wasn't allowed to work for at least a month. She wasn't happy with this but she knew she had no choice and she wasn't in the mood to work for now. She still had some pain in her stomach.

Rick and her left the hospital and were on their way to Rick's loft.

- "Welcome back, darling" said Martha when they arrived at the loft.

- "Thank you, Martha" she answered. "I'm going to get some rest, I'm tired"

Rick kissed her head and went to Alexis' room. She just arrived the morning. She had a week of holidays and needed to spend some time with her father. Even if she wasn't there a lot, because now she has her own flat, she was touched by what happened.

- "Hey pumpkin, how are you?" said Rick while kissing her head

- "You know dad I'm an adult now, you can stop calling me pumpkin"

- "I know, my girl is growing up."

- "How's Kate?" asked Alexis.

- "I don't know. She doesn't speak a lot about it." He said, looking down

Alexis nodded.

- "Maybe she should see someone, you know?" said Alexis

- "Yes, I know. We'll see about that later. I'm leaving you alone. I'll call you for the dinner"

- "Ok"

Rick walked down the stairs to his bedroom. He found Kate sitting on their bed, holding the little Teddy bear they had bought for their baby boy.

He sat next to her and took the Teddy bear away from her.

- "Rick... I'm so sorry..." she said, starting to sob.

- "Shh honey it's ok. Stop apologizing, I've already told you it's not your fault" he said taking her in his arms and laying in their bed.

He put the blanket on them and rocked Kate. They stayed like that for a few minutes and Kate finally fell asleep.

Rick stood up and went to the kitchen where Martha had already started to cook.

When the dinner was ready Rick call Alexis and went to check on Kate. She wasn't sleeping, she was in her thoughts and didn't see him coming in the bedroom.

- "Dinner is ready, honey" he said, sitting next to her and caressing her head.

- "I'm not hungry"

- "You have to eat, you have no choice."

- "I don't want to get out of bed, my stomach still hurts a lot" she said turning her back against him and cuddle in her pillow.

- "You don't have to. I'll bring you some pasta later, ok?" he said kissing her head.

- "Yes, whatever"

Rick went back to the kitchen where Martha and Alexis were waiting.

- "She doesn't want to eat..."said Rick sadly.

- "Don't worry, I'll take care of her" said Martha.
