Rhea Suede was going to hell.
She knew it from the moment he showed up at the same place she happened to be at with her boyfriend. He had no business being here, that much was true she knew it and he knew it too. Her round brown eyes found him lingering in the crowd, it wasn't that hard to miss given that the boy was as tall as ever. He was also the only one at the event dressed in all black while the rest of the attendees followed the code of being dressed in all white.
"Rhee — are you good, mami?" The raspy tone of her boyfriend of five months, Derek, entered her right ear. One hand gently rested against the small of her back and in his other hand holding a champagne glass full of sparkling apple cider.
Derek was living up to his goals of continuing on his path of sobriety and Rhea was proud. Rhea was friends first with Derek after she interviewed him and wrote a column piece about young artists in California. From that point on the two have always been friends first even when Derek was heavily involved with drug abuse. Rhea made it clear to Derek that she didn't care to be around him much with his heavy-use of marijuana and drinking while going on tour with him but she still tried to be a good friend to him nonetheless. There was always flirtations between the two but it never went anywhere because Derek was accustomed to a life-style (at the time) that Rhea wasn't down with. Sure she liked to have her fun every now and then, she was only twenty-one but she was always looking forward to the future. Which meant putting excessive pressure on herself.
Rhea tried to ignore the cringe from the term of endearment Derek used towards her. He was obsessed with the word back then and still liked to use it on her now. Rhea just didn't care for it much like she didn't care for the kink of calling her lover daddy. She only had one dad and it was the one who helped create her nobody else, sorry not sorry.
Blinking she hummed as she turned her head to meet the eyes of Derek who was staring at her concerned, "I'm sorry. Did I miss something?"
"Mrs. Hoffman was just asking about your career." Derek offered her a small smile as Rhea turned back to face the bright-blue eyed woman who was awaiting a response.
Rhea offered a polite smile at the Dark haired woman with the striking eyes, "I apologize for spacing out on you. I spend late nights writing and researching. I guess it's all catching up to me now. I work for a global magazine company."
Mrs. Hoffman looked shocked to hear that, "That's outstanding! What company and what position?"
"Deserprises. I'm one of the writers." Rhea informed as she moved to take a sip of her champagne, her eyes shifting to see him talking to the host of this event.
Mrs. Hoffman gasped as she glanced at Derek, "Mr. Luh you never told me your girlfriend worked underneath one of my best friends?!"
"That's my girl." Derek laughed a bit, glancing over at Rhea to lean over and peck her cheek then turned back to the woman, "And Please, Mrs. Hoffman. I told you, call me Derek."
