Who knew walking down an average high school hallway could bother you so much?
I don't want to be a complete bitch to people I have too spend the next three years left of high school with.
If you're like the twelve percent of kids in the school that don't know what happened to me, well you're in luck, I'm about to tell you.
Long story short- my parents died. I don't like to go into detail.. but I'll make an exception.
I walked home from school on a warm Thursday, I came upon my house and there was caution tape squaring off a blackened house that, oh so graciously, now belongs to me. I kept pushing to try to get myself inside of the house but the array of police officers and firefighters wouldn't budge. I kept screaming for my mom and dad but I didn't even see them until policemen were wheeling them out with white sheets over them. I remember falling to the ground.
I didn't believe it until I started living with my grandma and grandpa. I still live with them actually.~~~
I sat down at an old picnic table just barely inside the borders of the school campus.
As I took a sip of my water, I saw my best friend,Kennedy. She was running towards me full force. But there was someone with her, jack. Her boyfriend. Good ole jack."Kennedy!" I hollered.
"Alissa!" She exclaimed back."Jack!" I hollered, laughing.
"Alissa!" He hollered back.I hugged them both and watched them sit down one beside the other.
"So, What's been going on with you today?" Jack asked me.
Jack was so sweet. He was always the first one to hug me or ask me how my day was going. While Kennedy, she just sat there. Whether it was on her phone, texting her other boyfriend she swore me not to talk about. One day, I'm just gonna have to tell him. I hate it, but he needs to know. Now.
"Same old." I said, taking another drink of my water.
"Hey guys- I'm real sorry but I have to go to class." Kennedy announced.
She placed a kiss on jacks cheek. When she finally pranced off, I knew it was time. I'm gonna tell jack.
"Jack?" I said, getting up to move to sit by him.
"Lissa?" He asked, "what's up?"
My sad expression gave him an idea that this was not gonna be good news.
"It's about.." I began.
"Kennedy?" He asked.
I nodded my head.
"Is she okay?" He asked me.
His brown curls bobbed up and down as he talked to me.
I liked jack more than I probably should. I mean, he's my best friends boyfriend. It's not like I could ever date him. Kennedy would hate me.. maybe.. I'm okay with that.
"Jack.. she swore me not to tell you." I began "she's cheating on you."
My face was hot with anger and sadness. A tear streamed my face.
He looked at the ground with his mouth in the shape of an 'o'.
"I told you because well you need to know and second, you and Kenz are the two things I have left in my life. I can't have her keeping secrets from you." I said, shaking my head.
"Alissa, please sit by me." He said, patting the seat next to him.
I nodded and got up to change seats.
"I'm so sorry." I said, once I fully sit down.
"If I told you what I'm thinking..." he began.
"Tell me." I said, resting my hand easily on his shoulder.
"I love you." He smiled at me.
My heart leaped.
"Are you sure?" I giggled.
He smiled and nodded.
"I could never tell you because, you'd think I was a terrible person." He admitted.
"No jack. You're my favorite person." I smiled.
"Before Kennedy?" He asked.
"Way Before." I said, extending the 'y' in way.
He blushed and hugged me.
"Wait- you're not upset about all this?" I questioned.
"If she didn't want me, it wasn't meant to be. If she doesn't want me. I don't want her." He said, nodding.
"Jack, I'm so sorry." I said again.
"why?" He shrugged.
"Because..." I began.
I leaned in and kissed his lips. His eyes were wide with shock and then he faded into it.
My heart was melting. I can't believe this. I can't believe that it's real.
We pull away and I immediately blush.
"Jack, I'm sorry about that." I said, tucking my hair behind my ear.
"It was good.. we could do better." He smiled and nudged my shoulder.
"ALISSA! JACK!" We hear a voice exclaim from the other side of campus.
"Shit." Jack said.
"Damnit." I said.
We said that at the same time.
"What are y'all doing?" Kennedy prompted.
"You're cheating on me." Jack stated.
"What?" She question, popping her hip to one side and folding her arms across her chest.
"You're cheating on me." He restated.
"That's absurd." Kennedy replied.
"You use big words when you're lying." He admitted.
"Plus, I told him." I said, raising my hand.
"You little..." She began.
"What am I, Kennedy?" I began "am I a, whore? Slut? Bitch?"
She was shocked. I had never stood up to her before and I never thought that i would have too.
"You're a.." She tried to continue.
"Well you can't call me a cheater now can you?" I asked.
She screamed and stomped her feet and went about her way.
