I lay myself in his chest while the kids sit around. All of them, even our grandkids, he gets a tree and weeks ago we watched them all decorate it. "Papa?" Amelia Jericho's little girl smiles. Shawn gives her a smile while turning over slowly. He has tubes in his nose because his breathing is so bad. He has his days where he's perfect but today wasn't one of them, he woke up and we thought he was gonna drop dead. It was one of the worst things to witness and the heartache I felt thinking that I might loose him. And today of all days. I couldn't stop the fast beat of my heart, and then they gave him the tubes. I was beyond thankful he was probably gonna be ok.

"Yes Amelia?" He giggles her name making her smile back. She pokes at the tube. Lindsay, Jericho's wife, pulls her back a little to keep Shawn a little safer. I'm not doing my part in keeping him safe though. I'm not supposed to be laying with him but he wouldn't let me leave, or move so I've been here the whole time. Doctors monitor us closely assuring nothing happens to him.

"Nana said she has a present for you? Did you get nana anything?" She raises an eyebrow almost interrogating him which is really quite adorable.

"I did get nana something," he smiles poking her nose softly making her giggle. "I got her two things." He winks. "One for her birthday and another as her Christmas present. And it looks like her birthday present is here." Slowly he pushes himself up taking as much time as he needs to get there safely.

"You didn't need to get me anything." I blush hiding in my hands.

"I did," he nods sadly. "I really did, we have to spend your birthday here. There are so many other places we could be." He whispers so only I can hear. "I love you." His nose brushes against mine.

"I love you too," I mumble back falling against his shoulder. "Now keep your presents away from me!" I squeal and he giggles slowly pulling me closer.

"You'll like this one, I promise." He smiles at me. He doesn't laugh anymore because it hurts his lungs and soon he's gonna need another bone marrow transplant, and he might have to have some surgery on his lungs and another surgery for his kidneys that are failing. "Look," he smiles grabbing the box from one of the nurses.

"You're such a child." I laugh at the build a bear box.

"Oh just open it," he rolls his eyes. "You're gonna love it, a lot." He smiles pushing the box closer to me.

"It's adorable," I smile at the bear dressed up in a red checkered flannel. "And it's the only gift I'm accepting." The kids don't get me gifts because I get mad at them if they do. There are much more important things they can use their money for.

"There's a couple more things but fine." He shrugs brushing his nose against my cheek. It's one of the only means of affection we can show each other. His disease is really making our relationship hard, but it's also pulling us closer together. Almost loosing someone does a lot to the way you view the world. Everyday isn't a drag anymore, it's a blessing, it's a gift that they're bestowing upon us.

"Now it's my turn," I smile sliding off of Shawn's bed. I hand each person a different box, a different present. "And for you," I smile sitting on the bed. "I got something really special for you," smile a little wider staring at the tubes in his nose and the sparkle in his eyes, his smile is the closest thing I'll ever get to his laugh and it sits prominent while I hope for nothing but his giggle again. His beautiful throaty laugh, showing off his gorgeous teeth and his breathtaking smile. I miss it so much, it's been weeks since I last got to hear it, and I probably won't ever hear it again.

"What'd you get me?" He smiles while the other open their presents happily. I touch his fluffy hair, it's colour fading but still it's just as beautiful as before, just as curly just as soft.

"She got you something nothing could ever top." Skylar giggles climbing onto the bed and laying in Shawn's arms. "It's irreplaceable." She smiles cuddling her daddy.

"You know how I only visited you at midnight and some days I didn't come at all?" He nods with a small eye roll. "I was at school," I explain slowly. "And I'm the newest member to your oncology team!" I squeal a little.

"Really?" His voice crack softly and his eyes go soft. He'd never cry in front of them but cancer is really a whole different ball game.

"I'll be with you twenty four hours, seven days a week." I give him a tight hug. A hug so tight he can't squeeze me
back in the same way, I loosen my grip a little giving him some space to breath.

"That's the best gift, I've ever been given." He brings me as close as humanly possible.

"I love you," I smile at him wiping the tear in his eye.

"I love you too."

"You haven't seen the best part about this bear." He chuckles while I grab it from the box. The kids have been gone for hours off to see others and what not but they needed to visit their sick dad. He really appreciated them coming to the hospital for him and when they decorated the tree he cried. No one saw him but me, but he was crying. It's really sad sometimes and there's nothing I can do but I wanna make sure he's always happy. "It laughs," he sniffs, gently pressing the bears chest.

"It laughs," I sit on Shawn's lap leaning my head back against him. "It has a very beautiful laugh, how did you record it?" I raise an eyebrow and he shrugs.

"It's from an old video." He shrugs again making me smile pressing the bears chest yet again. "And I put it right there, where the heart is?" He grabs my hand. "Because I cant laugh with you anymore, so my laugh is as close to his heart as it is to yours."
