This is for those who does not know much about the incident that nearly brought us to nuclear war : The Cuban Missile Crisis.
This should get you into the context before continuing into the story :
In the month of October 1962, the world was spectating an extremely intense fight between the 2 superpowers : Capitalist USA and Communist Russia. This all started when USA discovered Russian missiles on Cuban soil, leading into the most scariest 2 weeks humanity has ever experienced. Both sides didn't knew what would be their opponent's next move, neither did they know what they should do themselves.
After the intense 13 days between the 2 largest superpowers, the Cuban Missile Crisis was fortunately resolved, saving the whole world from a nuclear holocaust. The Cuban Missile Crisis was part of the Cold War, and till' this day, the CMC is still being talked about, by historians and non-historians alike. This Crisis, so far, has truly brought humanity to the very brink of total annihilation.
That was the extremely brief summary behind the Cuban Missile Crisis(CMC).
Now, you may continue to read, and experience what led to the Crisis itself, and how it was resolved by the USA and the USSR.
NOTE : The book will be mostly about the characters' conversations. So prepare to see a lot of talking. I feel for this event specifically, if its written that way, it would be much better :)
