Chapter 1-Jess

Jess sat at the table motionless watching the clock tick to its gental rhythm. The rather large oak tree, at the back of the lawn, was shook violently by the strong winds. She was in a world of her own; she dreamt of being an an explorer one day. But the state she was in, that wish would never come true.

Jess grew up in a rough, harsh and scary environment with drunk men knocking at her door at night. Her and her mum lived there for years. Mel, jess' mum ,sang at a near by pub working 6-12pm leaving jess on her own at night. The house was small no bigger than an apartment. For years jess and her mum got on with there own lives. Mel did not care a soul about her daughter since her husband, ed, died. When his death came she stayed in her room for a week and refused to go to the funeral. You could call her mean and harsh but she sure was beautiful like her daughter jess. Jess had beautiful long flowing blonde hair which came to her waist. When she caught the light you could see the shine in her crystal blue eyes not to mention her rose red lips. At her school she was bullied for her height as she was small for her age. Sadly her mum had a tragic death at the pub as some teenagers had set fire alight to the pub. There was no one to look after jess anymore. Sadly jess was moved to a children's home. And this is where our story begins.

James squealed as Joanne chased him into the room were jess was perched. Joanne did not notice jess sitting on the chestnut chair.

"Joanne, could you please hunt down James some other place?" Jess asked with her cockney ascent.

"Why should I?" argued Joanne but soon James had darted out the room with Joanne not far behind "I would stay here longer but I have places to go and people to see!" And with that jess was again left in the lull of the night. Silently, jess thought through her plans to be an explorer. How she would track down rare species of mammals and poisonous insects and that she would swim with the dolphins. Jess was a lover of animals. She would not care less what they looked like whether they were small or big, fat or skinny or what colour they were. Every child wants a puppy for Christmas but not jess;all she ever asked for was spiders, tigers or dolphins!

"Where have all the biscuits gone?" Interrupted sammy " I am hungry!"

" I think Emma took them to her room" lied jess to get sammy off her back. Sammy sulked a little but then left Jess in silence once again. Then jess started thinking again. She was thinking for a little while until Clair came in and told her that it was time for bed. Jess was always one of the latest in bed as she was,11 years old. In thoughts jess drifted away through the open door; up in to her room and onto her broken bed. That night jess had nightmares. nightmares of her mum. She hated her mum. Everyone told her that her mum had left her when she hadn't really.

Chapter 2- School

The next morning jess went downstairs and poured her usual bowl of Cheerios. She then grabbed the milk from Joanne and tipped a generous amount over her breakfast.

Once jess had finished her breakfast she tipped toed upstairs to her room and pulled on zebra print jeans and a sky blue polo shirt. Jess never dressed up not even for parties- she just wore her zebra print jeans and a polo shirt. However hard the care workers tried they could not persuade her to do so. In the nick of time she had got dressed consequently she headed to school. Before Jess could go to her school she had to walk little Sammy to the infant school. When she had finally helped Sammy find a friend, she sprinted to Ganford High. The end of her legs moved violently across the green grass, tearing white and amber daisies out of their habitat which was then they were left lying dead on the ground. Her lungs filled up with fresh air. if you would of been watching you would have thought it was a race. she was going as fast as her little scrawny legs would carry her. her golden hair would have been fluttering in the breeze if it had Not been tugged into a scruffy golden plait. after that long, tiresome sprint jess made her way in through the school gates panting like a dog. Jess had just started at this high school despite how big the grand school was, compared to her old school, she was not at all frightened!

"Hey, little kid,"bellowed Sian, " why you out of breath? It is really of putting!"

"I know you can't run Sian but when you run from the primary fields to the secondry fields you do tend to get out of breath." Jess explained it cleverly. Sian pulled a face then cat walked back down the corridor with her fancy pants gang. Jess watched them slowly dissolve down the long school corridor. As you would expect: I say 'jess is left again' which is quite true but only for a matter of seconds... Next the school bell rang. there was a stampede of children all rushing to their classes: geography, maths, physics, English, history and, well, you get the idea! Screaming and shouting commenced. Jess legged it into a corner as she did not want to get trodden on by the herd of 'elephants'. As you have probably guessed her little cat walk enemies came brushing past, Jess felt a little punch on her arm she knew who it was she saw it crystal clear she saw the perfect manicured nails it was Sian. Jess couldn't care about a little punch as at that specific moment jess had dropped her diary, which contained all her valued secrets, on the marbled floor! She couldn't let anyone see especially SIAN. The loose diary pages fluttered around until someone stomped of it. as soon as everyone had abandond the halls, jess picked up all the pages, putting them all in order, but noticing one. one page seemed to be missing. The page about her being in the orphanage. No one knew about this little secret except her and the people in her care home!

Jess finally got to her gym lesson on time to be picked by Elisha, not Sian! Elisha was the captin of the sports department- she was adventurous just like jess.

"Ok, Elisha's team. I want you to run around the field 4 times and then do the obstical course and finally tag the next player. 3 people from your team will go at a time." spat, jess's gym teacher, Mr Reynolds.

" Um... Mr Reynolds that is except the cheerleading squad?" fluttered Sian.

"No, Sian. I do mean EVERYONE! Now Sian, Martha and Jake, you can go first from your team and Elisha, Daniel and Ben you also go. GO!!!" Out of all the six children five of them sprinted of and well as you would of guessed it, it was Sian who hung back and stammered half a lap behind.

" Ok you guys go and get a drink and brace yourself- this is by way the most challenging course I have set you all year!"sympathised Mr Reynolds. This was Jess's chance; she could get a sneak peak through Sian's bag to try and find her diary page before Sian gets a chance to. Now where would Sian's bag be thought Jess. Jess thought for a second or two. When she finally realised her biggest secret ever was in a locked locker she slumped down on the oak wooden bench. Where the hell was Sian's key? Jess finally gave up. She golumped down a mouthful of water and headed outside. The world seemed to slow down as Sian limped past. A silver key hung from Sian's tanned neck on a pink steel chain. Now, jess knew how to return her diary page to it's rightful place. "hmmm...Sian would you like to come up here and do a demonstration on how to do four laps of the field." exclaimed Mr Reynolds.

" why her?" questioned a boy in the corner of the field.

" because she thinks it's all right to talk to her friends during P.E." said Mr Reynolds." I'm waiting Sian And give me that key around your neck it's for your own safety" Sian handed the key to Mr Reynolds. Jess gazed at the key that sat in Mr Reynolds hand. Then suddenly a light bulb turned on above jess's head. Jess Began to walk over to her teacher then she began to question him.

"Sir." Remarked Jess. " Do you want me to look after that key for you as I am a very good friend to Sian."

" Can I trust you Jess? you know your one of my best pupils so don't let your standards drop!" Said Mr Reynolds

" I guarantee you 100% I Won't let you down" Said Jess. Now we all know this was not true at all because at that very moment that the teacher handed Jess the Key. Jess asked if she could pop too the toilet. Mr Reynolds said " yes but Jess Don't let me down." Jess ran as fast as she could well technically when she was out of sight she began to cartwheel the rest of the way. As soon as Jess arrived She stood in front of Sian's locker did she really want to be one of the kids who slumps in the corner who gets a detention 24/7 she needed to choose and it needed it to be pronto. after not a long thought she decided that it would be for the best. she couldnt let the whole school know her biggest secret which not even her best friend, if she had one, would know!
