March 16 Crystal Kimman

As I opened my locker and started searching for my biology binder, Melissa whispered "hottie at 9 o'clock!" I suddenly slammed my locker shut and did a hair flip. He looked at me and winked! Josh was his name. Josh Michaels. I've known him ever since we met in the third grade. He had always been the athletic type. I guess that would explain why he's on three different sports teams this year! He was popular. Always had been. We were good friends in elementary school, until he met his buddie Joey. Joey was a bad infulence on him, but Melissa had the hots for him. Only God knows why. He did drugs, so people said. And he seemed concieted. The complete opposite of Josh. I never understood why Josh even hung out with him.

The bell rang. As Melissa and I ran towards the biology room, we saw Rachel. She was crying on her way to the girls bathroom. I looked at Melissa, and she looked at me. I knew we were thinking the same thing. We walked into the girls bathroom and found Rachel crying in the corner. "Rachel, what's wrong sweetie?" Melissa asked worridly. "Um, well, it's my dad.. He's at it again." Melissa looked at me. "Rachel, I'm so sorry, how can we help?" I asked. "You can't. No one can stop him." She said. She ran out of the bathroom towards her locker, grabbed her bag and headed for the door. She bumped into Josh. "Ohh, I'm so sorry Rachel, I wasn't watching where I was going." She looked up at him. "What's wrong Rachel?" Josh asked. "Um, it's nothing. Everythings fine." She started for the door. Josh grabbed her shoulder. "Rachel, I know this is probably not the greatest time but, I really like you.. And I was wondering if you'd like to go for dinner with me this Friday?" She turned and looked at him. As a little smile crossed her face, she quietly said "Um, sure. Pick me up at 7." She walked out the door.

Josh made his way to French class.I looked at Melissa and said "You know, I really hope things work out for her. I feel so bad that her dad is abusing her mom again. I couldn't imagine what she's going through. As much as I like Josh, I'm happy he asked her out, I think he'll make her happy. She deserves it." "I couldn't agree with you more Ali! But, do you think we should try and help? You know, with her mom and dad?" She asked. I thought about it for a second and decided Melissa had come up with a great idea! "Let's go and see Mr. Allen, maybe if we tell him he can do something to help her." I said anxiously. We got to the principal's office and saw Mr. Allen sitting in his chair doing some paperwork. I knocked on the door as Melissa and I walked in. "Mr. Allen, Ali and I need to talk to you about something." Melissa said. "What is it Melissa?" He asked curiously. "We want to help Rachel. You see, her dad is abusive to her mom and it really upsets her. Like it would upset any child." I said. "I'll see what I can do girls." Mr. Allen said.

The day seemed longer than it actually was. After school Ali and I started to walk home. We passed Rachel's house and noticed three police cars parked outside. Melissa and I ran accross the street to see what was going on. "Hi Mr. um, we're friends of Rachel Newman, can you tell us what's going on and if she's okay?" I asked nervously. "Rachel's fine, but there's been a murder." He said quickly. Melissa fell to the ground, and I started to cry. "Is-Is her mom gone?" Melissa asked softly. "I'm afraid so. We're trying to locate her husband. Rachel told us he abused her, so we're trying to find him." The officer said. "Where's Rachel?" We asked. "I'm afraid you girls can't see her right now, she's at the station. Melissa and I ran to my house sobbing. We were crying for four hours non stop, trying to figure out where Rachel's dad could be. We turned on CHCH news at 11 to see if he had turned up. To our surprise, the news lady said that Rachel's dad was found at a gas station 40 miles from her house. He was arrested and charged for the murder of his wife Pamela Newman. The next day at school was brutal. Luckily, Melissa and I ran into Josh and asked him if he had talked to Rachel. He said he did talk to her and that their date would be posponed to two weeks from then. We turned around and walked away.

The next week we didn't see Rachel at school, which was expected. But Melissa and I missed her. Later that night, I had turned the news on and saw that there was a severe accident on Main St involving a car and a cyclest. The name of the cyclest was Josh Michaels. My heart sank. I called Melissa from my cell-phone and asked if she had heard the news. She was in shock, and could barley say a word. The next day at school we saw Rachel. Melissa and I ran to her and started talking. The only thing she was really interested in, was finding Josh. "I didn't want to be the one to tell you, but Josh died in an accident last night. I'm so sorry Rachel. I don't know what to say." I said, as I started to cry. Slowly, Rachel searched her bag for something. Then all of a sudden BOOM! Rachel was dead. She had pulled a gun out of her bag and comitted suicide.
