Chapter 3

Austin’s POV

The whole day was fun. Ella had dragged me around the whole mall, which is fairly large, looking for various things. I'm pretty sure when I was in the tux store she snuck off and went to the la senza in the mall. For dinner we had gone to the New York fries they have in the large food court and both ordered a poutine.

It was around 9 when we decided to go home, but we just wanted to keep driving so we didn’t exactly get home until 11. Since it was 11 everyone was already asleep or just in there room doing who-knows-what.

We take all of the bags from the day and haul them to mine and Ella's rooms say our good nights and head to our rooms.

I get into my room put on a pair of pajama shorts and go lie in bed.

My bed. The magical place where I remember everything from the day. Remember everything like a conversation I had with an old “friend”. I can’t believe he would call when he knows I'm at my summer house, with my family and friends. Why did I even do that? I mean now I own him almost $300, but he was willing to trade that for a night with Ella. I could never force her into that trap. This is my issue and I have to deal with it. She’s like my sister. She is never getting hurt by Jordan Petry.

I was stupid and pissed off at life. It had kicked me in the balls yet again. Just when I thought my life was going good. I had an amazing girlfriend, had been doing well in my classes, my family was good; but then it all crumbled. My girlfriend cheated on me, mom lost her job, and my grades all dropped. That's when Jordan came around. Offered me a free way out. Little did I know he would expect money in return.

I spend the remainder of the night trying to sleep but just kept tossing and turning. When I did get some sleep he would just be in my dreams doing a numerous amount of things. When sleep finally doesn’t reach me and I give up trying to get it I decide I’ll go down and take a swim in our pool.

I have to be quiet because my room is the last down the hall. I don’t want to wake anyone up. I quickly and quietly go down the stairs, go to the linen closet, and grab a towel. I walk out the back door pull my shirt over my head and jump in the pool.

The water is so refreshing and rids my head of any bad thoughts I might have had.

“Mind if I join you?” Ella asks scaring me. I didn’t even hear her come outside.

“No, not at all.” I tell her. She quickly removes her shorts and tank top and I can’t help but stare. She then takes a run and dives into the pool emerging only seconds later.

“Refreshing isn’t it.” She says to me.

“Ya. Rids me of all my thoughts.” I say back with a smile.

“Remember when we were little and we pretended I was a mermaid and you were a merman, and we lived in the city of Atlantis with all the other sea-creatures?” she asks me.

“Ya you had to force me to play that with you.” I say and we both laugh.

*Flashback*

“Do you want to go swimming Austin?” Four-year-old Ella asked five-year-old Austin.

“Only always.” He says and they both go out back and start swimming.

“Austin. Do you want to play a game with me?” Ella asked.

“Depends what is it?” Austin replied.

“I will be the mermaid and you will be the merman we will live in Atlantis with all the sea creatures!” Little Ella said enthusiastically.

“Mermaids are for girls Ella.” Austin said rejecting the idea.

“That’s why I said you’d be the merman.” Ella tells him not giving up.

“I just want to swim.”

“How about in a little while?”

“I guess.”

*End of flashback*

“Those were the days.” I say to her knowing she was thinking about it also.

“Everything was so easy back then. No exams; no bitches in school; no asshole guys; no having to worry about money.” She says to me leaning on the edge of the pool.

“I know! Can’t we just go back in time?”

“I wish it was that easy.” She says looking at me. I never knew how beautiful her eyes are. They sparkle in the moonlight. No wonder Jordan was willing to trade a night with her, for the money I owe him. But this is my issue and I will find another way out of it.

“You know we could get something else off of our list.” I say to Ella breaking the silence.

“What are you trying to get at Mr. King?” she asks giving me that look that she always gives when she knows exactly what you're talking about.

“We could go skinny dipping right now.” I whisper into her ear and she shivers.

“Ya not tonight it’s getting late,” she looks at the clock, which reads 1:37am, laughing a little. “I should go get some sleep.” She hops out of the pool and wraps herself in her huge purple towel.

“Ok goodnight.” I say.

“Goodnight.” She replies with her cute little smile.
