She lay in the temporary nurse's office at her church's summer camp, ready to pass away, from one life to another. Hopeless, numb, and unafraid, she knew what she wanted and how it had to be.
"Come on, please just listen," Begged the youth pastor, who was in charge of all the kids at the camp.
"Really, It's not that bad." Said one of her supposed 'friends'.
"For how long have you been this way anyway?" Asked an uninterested activities director."Since many summers." She replied for no perceived reason of her own. Thinking back to those awful, underwhelming colored numbnesses and feeling so very alone. The feeling of being alone never left her, and the despair and agony of the people around her burdened her already self-burdened load so much she could barely handle it anymore.
No one even made an attempt to come near. The only memory she had was pain, she didn't even know her name. Every other memory had escaped during her long years of sadness."Well, this is it for today. We oughta be gettin' home now. See you tomorrow..." The youth pastor announced, packing up his things. One minute this had been a serious issue, but now that work hours were over, his only wish was to be home with his family.
With that, the pastor and other camp staff left her in the small, open room beside the road that ran through the camp. All the other campers were off doing fun camp activities and getting ready for lights out. But she could not. She had already gotten into enough trouble as it was with her 'bad attitude', so she didn't see the point of trying.
She lay, suddenly feeling cold, so she slipped on her favorite unicorn hoodie, wondering why she even bothered warming herself up when she knew the cold hard truth inside.'Maybe I'll just go see the sunset," she thought, having a sudden, absurd hope, that possibly the pretty mirage could cure her despair. Peering out the window door, she opened it slightly, making sure no one was around. She'd never hear the end of it if the other campers spotted her. To the right she saw a little hill not too far off.
Wondering why she'd never noticed it before, she began to run towards. Though maybe it was not so much running towards the hill as it was running away from the camp~Climbing over one now-existent hill after the next, and still unable to see past the horizon, it soon turned to night.
As she continued climbing and then running, she reached a bell tower, one that seemed like it had randomly appeared out of sometime around the Middle Ages.
She ascended quickly to the top. The moon wasn't out, and no stars were visible, but even still she could see a light coming from afar off.
'Where is that light coming from?' She wondered. 'There's not supposed to be anyone around for many miles.'After repeating this with another, similar bell tower that was even closer to the light and directly adjacent to the first, she finally came across a third bell tower. Climbing to the top with the same routine, she arrived, and upon seeing the bell, she quickly noticed something just beyond it.
Upon closer examination, it appeared to be a swirling vortex, and on the other side, she heard laughter and happy things. A sort of power came over her, and she was pulled against her will to the swirling vortex of mystery.
'This must be what was producing that light,' She realized, as it was brighter now than ever. Looking around, she realized how other-worldly the whole thing seemed.
Ever so uninterestedly and not entirely her own choice, she touched the swirling, and ever-growingly luminescent vortex and she was suddenly, but very undramatically from her perspective, as you simply cannot see things in a dramatic fashion when you are in a hopeless despair, pulled inside of a drab and boring-looking old warehouse.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
