"Why do you do that?" Sara asked, looking at me with raised eyebrows.
"Do what?" I asked, looking around.
"Chew your lip like that," I paused and blew out a breath of air I'd been holding.
"Sorry, I guess I'm just nervous," I crossed my arms and shook my leg under the table.
"Nervous? Why would you be nervous?" she looked around then back at me. I stopped shaking my leg and held my breath. There he was. Sara turned in the direction I was staring and sighed.
"God Jen, why don't you just ask him out already?" I didn't pay her any attention, because I was mentally preparing myself. I was going to do it. I was going to ask him out. "Oh my God, that's what you're going to do, aren't you?" she turned back to me an smiled.
"Trying." I said, staring at him as he entered the store.
"Do it, please so we can get on with our lives," she joked. I stood up and took a step towards the door then paused when I caught him looking in my direction.
"Go!" Sara pushed me forward, making me stumble into the door. I gave her a dirty look then walked inside.
Oh god, oh god. I kept my eyes on the floor, walking to the furthest aisle in the back, which mean I was in the aisle next to him. I looked out the window at Sara who was practically yelling at me through the glass to go talk to him. I made my way silently and slowly to the next aisle, pretending to be interested in what was on the shelves.
Condoms, great. I took a bow off the shelf and pretended to examine it, while looking at him from the corner of my eye. I put the box back and moved closer, picking up a different box.
"Her sensation," a voice said over my shoulder. I practically jumped and turned to see him smiling down at me, his eyes filled with amusement. "That's a good choice, but you might want to try these," he picked a box off the shelf and handed it to me.
"Strawberry flavored?" I stared at the little picture of the strawberries.
"With ridges for pleasure," he quoted off the box. I looked up at him again, his smile had gotten even bigger.
Great, I'm discussing condoms with the guy I wanted to ask out. Way to make a good impression, Jen.
I took in a deep breath and put the boxes back on the shelf.
"Yeah, I don't really see what I was looking for anyway," I rubbed the back of my neck.
"Oh really?" his voice got deep and he took a step closer. I gulped and looked him in the eyes. "Cause I just found what I was looking for," he stepped closer and grabbed me by the waist, pulling me into his chest.
"Her sensation," I snapped out of my trance and turned to look at him.
"Yeah, you know...can never be too safe," I shrugged and smiled.
"Very smart," he raised an eyebrow. "I'm Robert, by the way," he said, putting out a hand for me to shake. I took it and introduced myself.
"Well, I've got to go, but I'm having a party tonight, you and your friend should come," he took a piece of paper out of his pocket and handed it to me.
"Oh okay cool," I smiled again and said goodbye, staring at him as he left.
"So are we going in now?" Sara said impatiently. I took in a deep breath and began to walk towards the door. "Dont worry about anything, Jen. You look great, and besides, he invited you. Doesn't that count for something?" I smiled weakly at her as she rang the doorbell.
"Hello ladies," a boy with dark hair answered the door, his breath thick with alcohol. He let us in and we made our way to the back of the room.
The party was packed with boys and girls and boys kissing girls and every other thing you could imagine.
"Drinks?" another boy came by with a tray of red plastic cups, offering us some. Sara took two, handing me one and taking a sip out of hers.
"Live a little, Jen. It's not everyday you get to go to a party at the house of your crush," she laughed to herself and took another sip.
I scooped out the room and decided to move on; he wasn't there.
"I'm gonna go into the next room," I shouted to Sara over the music. She nodded, but continued to make eyes at a boy across the room.
I weaves through the crowd, searching for him everywhere.
Wait, what are you doing? I stopped and sat in a chair against the wall. If he wants to talk to you, he'll come find you, but going around like a chicken with your head cut off won't help your situation.
"Hey beautiful," a boy sat next to me, his movements sloppy and his breath reeked of alcohol.
"Uh...hi," I said uncomfortably.
"You wanna go upstairs so I can give you a tour of the rest of the house?" he said, putting an arm around my shoulders.
"No thanks, actually, I see my friends right over there so..." I slipped out of his grasp and made my way into the next room quickly, finding a wall to lean against.
"There you are," I looked up and smiled as Robert made his way towards me.
He is makig his way to me, right? Oh God, what if he's talkig to someone next to me? I checked around me. No one but me standing here...
"I was starting to wonder if you were going to show," he said stopping in front of me. "I thought I had been stood up," he joked.
"No, I was just being hit on by random drunk guys," he laughed and put a hand on the wall, leaning on his arm.
Oh wow, he's actually really close right now... I thought.
"Well, I'll make sure that doesn't happen again," he said, leaning in closer. Is he flirting with me?
"Are you flirting with me?" I asked without thinking. He smiled and leaned in even closer, so our faces were only inches apart.
"Maybe," his voice was a whisper and I could feel his hot breath on my face. "But the question now is, what are you going to do about it?" he smirked as istared at him in shock.
Then, I grabbed him and planted my lips on his. He was quick to return the kiss and even quicker to make it more passionate by pulling me into him.
Our hips rubbed against eachother and our hands explored eachothers bodies.
"Oh my God!" Sara screamed into my ear. I held the phone away as she continued screaming.
"Are you done now?" I asked, laughing at her reaction.
"No! Do you even know what this means?! We're going to be seeing little Robert and Jen babies runnig around soon," I laughed and shook my head.
"Whoa, now we're getting ahead of ourselves. We're just dating," I smiled as I remembered the night before.
It was true, after ten minutes of pure making out, Robert asked me to be his girlfriend. And, of course, I said yes.
That was five years ago today.
"Louis!" I yelled into the living room. "Amy!"
"Yeah mom?" they said in unison.
"Time for dinner," I said, popping my head in to make sure they were getting up.
"Mmm...looks good," Robert said giving me a kiss on the forehead then sitting down at rhe table.
"Hope so, it's a new recipe I found," I smiled at him then turned my attention to the kids. "Did you wash your hands?" they nodded and sat down. "Oh, the baby's kicking," I said touching my belly.
It was true, Robert and I were happily married one year after we started dating and had our twins shortly after that, now we were expecting a new one, a little boy.
