Chapter Thirteen

He should have felt relief that this spirit wasn't Rylee. But he didn't. It broke his heart even more now. All the nights he heard Rylee cry out or wake up screaming. Her struggles to fight the nightmares each night. Why she refuses to open up to anyone about what's been happening to her.

Now he knew why.

"Twins." It was all he could say. His thoughts were scattered and torn.

"Yes. I'm Olivia. And I need your help." She fizzled out for a second and than came back. It was getting harder to stay complete. Her energy was dissipating, leaving her no matter how hard she tries to hang on to it. "I don't have much time left."

Zak understood. It took a lot out of spirits to make themselves known to the living. Much more was needed to stay in a solid form like Olivia had done. He could see that she was starting to fade and become translucent again. He had to act fast before she faded and he didn't get the chance to talk to her.

He stepped towards her holding out his hand to her. "Here, use my energy. It'll help."

She tilted her head slightly and looked at him. She could feel his body giving off energy, strong energy that would help her out. But it would only drain him and she couldn't do that when something terrible was coming their way. "I couldn't..."

Zak moved closer keeping his hand out to her to touch. "I insist. There must be something really important you need to tell me. You'll need it."

Their eyes met. She could see into them, searching for any reason this was a bad idea. But all she could feel was his kindness. His desire to help those in need. She looked a little deeper.

Love.

Love he had for her sister. "You love her..." It was more of a statement than a question.

Zak nodded.

There was no denying it. The realization that he loved Rylee came to be when he thought she was dead. It explained so much for him. Why he acted like a jerk most of the time. Why he didn't want her to be around the job: he couldn't bare to lose her. He thought if he pushed her away, made her job a little bit harder she would leave. Than she would be safe. He couldn't handle the feelings or his thoughts if something bad was to ever happen to her.

But it only made things worse between them instead. All the arguing and constant bickering about each other. Her anger and pain he saw daily when she walked into a room and saw him. Instead of trying to fix it, he would say something smart to piss her off more.

He regretted it now. Everything he said or did. All the heartache he caused her. If he could take it back and start over he would do things differently. Rylee was a great asset to the team. A kind heart who was willing to help those who needed it. She was a natural at speaking with the victims who were traumatized by their experiences. He witnessed it when they met Jack. She brought something special to the team. The glue to hold everything together.

A small smile reached out and touched Olivia's pale lips. A rush of warmth filled her. His feelings danced around her and tugged at her heart. "Rylee is lucky to have you." She said as she took a step towards him. "My sister..." She closed her eyes for a second and searched for her sister. Even in death she could still feel her. Knew what she was feeling or thinking. It was a bond that was forged long ago when they were just tiny little babies inside their mothers womb. A connection that still holds together. "She loves you too, you know."
