Part Two

I woke up the next morning and quickly rushed next door to Shawn's. We ate breakfast together every Friday. Even though I wanted to avoid Shawn's question, I couldn't pass this down. It was practically a tradition.

I opened the front door and the smell of maple syrup overwhelmed me and it felt like home as always. I was greeted with a warm welcome from Mrs. Mendes behind the stove finishing her last pancake.

"Shawn! Get downstairs, Laur is here already!" She yelled, while pointing for me to sit in the chair I always sit in. Its crazy, she even called me by my nickname. I just got used to it considering she was like a mom to

Me.

I heard footsteps quickly descending down the stairs. I smiled as Shawn looked up. "Good morning!" He grinned while leaning down to tie his Sperrys. I loved it when he wore those, they were so ordinary and they reminded me of all the times we still spent together while just being ordinary.

He sat next to me and took a large sip of orange juice. He made a sour face and I laughed. He did this every morning, he knew drinking orange juice after brushing his teeth was a bad idea.

"So lauren, have you thought about going? I want you to see the US! We will have so much fun."

Mrs. Mendes looked up from fixing our plates. "I spoke to your mother last night on the phone, We settled it last night. She was going to pack your suitcase while you're at school and bring it over. She said she knew you'd want to go."

I was shocked. Our parents were so close, I hated it sometimes. I smiled to be respectful, I cared about Shawn's mom. She helped raise me. She was always my babysitter when my mom had to leave town.

"YAAAAAAAAS! Laur, We will shop till' we DROP in NYC!" Shawn screamed while shoving his mouth with pancakes and eggs. I giggled feeling the slightest bit of excitement. Maybe this trip would be a good thing...
