he sat on his couch, biting his nails, with the news blaring in front of him. he sobbed silently, tears dripping down his face. "please, liza, please, please, please," he had been muttering, seemingly on a loop. lost victims and survivors from flight to new york recovered, read the headline. it had been 28 days. 28 days since his baby had disappeared. he was at their house when it happened.

he had made her a dinner, decorated the house with an assortment of candles and string lights, rented all of her favourite movies off of apple tv, and he bought her a giant fluffy pillow that seemed like it would match the bedroom. liza had been talking about how stressed out she had been up until that point, so david had made it his personal mission to de-stress his girl as much as possible, oh, and liza loved having a cuddle buddy when she watched movies, so that warranted her and david staying up all night so they could just relax together. but that hadn't gotten to happen. he was sitting on the couch, waiting for the familiar sound of their garage door opening, when he got the call. though it was a number that wasn't assigned to a contact in his phone, he knew that liza had been due back home about 30 minutes prior to getting this call, so he answered it, getting slightly anxious. right away, the caller prompted him, asking if he knew of an elizabeth koshy, because he was the first person on her emergency contact list. they informed him that the flight liza had been on had went down, and none of the victims – or survivors – had been found. after that, david couldn't hear anything else. before he knew it, he had hung up on the caller, and begun to drive to scott, todd and jason's house. the tears were streaming uncontrollably down his face mas he arrived and knocked on their door. todd opened the door, getting ready to scold whoever was there as he had been sleeping, and when he saw david's red, swollen eyes, his tear-stained face, the way his hands were uncontrollably shaking, todd knew something went terribly wrong. todd had asked david what was wrong, but he just couldn't find the words. shaking his head, the waterworks turned on again, and because david was a considerably loud cryer, the three other inhabitants of the house were in the living room shortly. he had somehow managed to get out that liza's plane had crashed and she was missing before half walking-half falling through the doorway of the house. the sobs seemingly never stopped, and right when they did, right when he finally thought his emotions were giving him a break, something would remind him of her and it would start back up again. david had scott call liza's parents, as he couldn't get her name out without beginning to cry. the days were rough, but he got by. the worst part of it all was what he had to post on his socials explaining his break. not only did david owe it to his fans, he owedit to liza's fans. so he posted something to explain why there'd be absence online from the both of them, and obviously they were immediately showered with support. though david was thankful for his fans and friends, and family who'd come to visit him as well, he just couldn't help but feel the emptiness. her emptiness.

david's phone began to blare, shaking him from his daze and causing him to tear his eyes away from the television. answering his phone, weakly giving the caller a hello, when he heard the best news possible. "hello, yes, do you know an elizabeth koshy?" david answered with the obvious. "okay well we're here with her, she was one of the survivors. she's under medical care right now, but we-" david cut them off, his hollow voice suddenly full of life again.

"where? what's the fastest way i can get to you?" david questioned. they informed him that she was staying in the LA general hospital [listen i know this isn't a real place just bare with me okay] which fortunately was the closest hospital to david. "oh my god. okay. i'm leaving now. if she wakes up before i'm there, tell her david's on his way." he said, before promptly ending the call. he sent his mother, who was out grocery shopping as david had been too much of a mess to do it himself, a text, saying liza had been found and he had to go see her, and as soon as his car was started, he called liza's parents as well, letting them know to come out to LA asap, because they planned on waiting another week before coming. suddenly everything in david's life was coming back together, and then he remembered his plans from when liza was supposed to be home. he opened the glovebox, and pulled out a small box. one containing an engagement ring. he planned to take liza for a drive down to kian and jc's house, where he had decorated the rooftop, the place of their first kiss. davids heart began to beat faster and faster, thinking about what he was going to do that night. he knew kian and jc didn't have the hearts to take the decorations down, so he quickly called them, seeing if the decorations were still up, like he anticipated. david was right, and he told them to leave them. the boys agreed and before david knew it, he was at the hospital. he went up to the front desk. "elizabeth koshy?" he asked the woman sitting behind the computer. she responded with a simple,

"room 28" before turning back to her work on the computer, furrowing her brows as she typed furiously. david turned on his heel, checking the room signs as he crept slowly up the 20's, when finally, he found it. he looked through the small, rectangular window in the centre of the door, and without a second thought, he opened it. upon looking at his girlfriend, his face dropped. there were stitches on her forehead, and her arm was in a cast past her elbow. he sighed, and moved to sit next to liza's uninjured arm, gently grabbing her hand. david didn't say anything, he didn't need to. the fact that liza was alive in front of him, and seemingly she was going to be okay, that was all that david could've asked for. he gently kissed the top of her hand, and moved the hair out of her face, avoiding the stitched area. a doctor knocked on the door lightly, before letting herself in. david looked up at her, wordlessly. a small smile played at his lips.

"she'll be awake soon, we just had to sedate her so we could set her arm without causing her too much pain. besides that and the gash on her forehead, there are no serious injuries." she said, giving david a small smile. david, on the other hand, allowed his face to erupt into a giant, lopsided grin.

"she's going to be okay?" he asked the doctor.

"she's going to be okay," she said, returning his smile. "good news is always the best to give." she finished, putting liza's chart into the bin that was hanging off the foot of her bed. the doctor walked out, her heels clicking, and liza began to rustle in bed. as david saw her eyes open, he let out a breath he didn't know he was holding in.

"o-oh my god. baby. oh my god. you're okay. liza, you're okay!" he said to her, leaning down and passionately kissing her lips. she kissed back, blissfully grinning into the kiss. "baby i missed you so much, oh my god, i was a train wreck. oh fuck wait, i probably look like one too," he said, leaning over to check himself in the mirror. yup. he hadn't shaved since the day liza's plane crashed. "shit." he finished. liza just gave him another smile, leaning into him and giving him a one-armed hug with her good arm.

"bubba, i have no words. i missed you so much and god, i love you so much." she told him, tears spilling over her eyes.

"oh babe," david began, lightly swiping away her tears with his thumbs as he cupped the side of her face, "i love you so damn much. please never scare me like that again." liza giggled, nodding. that smile. david smirked back at her, and as he stood up, the box fell out of his pocket and onto the bed. liza grabbed the box and began to open it, curious to see what was inside. "shit." muttered david, as liza looked at him quizzically. she opened the box fully, her eyes watering and tears threatening to spill over for the second time today.

"david..." liza started. he silenced her with a kiss.

"so i had a full setup and shit, kian and jc's rooftop just like our first kiss, but i guess a hospital room is romantic enough?" he told her, leaning down on one knee. "baby girl, i was planning to do this the night after your plane... incident, but that obviously didn't work out. so here i am, scared shitless, yet at the same time, not at all. liza, when i think of my future, i think of you. and i don't just think of you in it, i think of simply you, because you are my future. you're what keeps me going no matter what's going on inside my head, you're the one who's always there for me, you never fail me liza. i love you more than you know. elizabeth shaila koshy, will you marry me, gorgeous?" he asked. she nodded, not being able to form proper words. he stood up and wrapped his arms around her small body, slipping the ring around her finger, finally letting himself go. their tears getting confused with each other, all the emotions they'd been feeling for the past four weeks finally being let out. liza found her words, and spoke softly into his shoulder.

"babe, why was that even a question? are you stupid? of course i'll marry you."
