"Because, I love you." I love you. those three words kept playing on a loop in my mind and neither one of us spoke. I love you. How can he say that after he threatened to kill me, kill my cousins. He wanted me dead when we met, how can he love me now? Only a few weeks later.
More importantly, how can I stay the words back? When they wouldn't be true. When I don't know what they mean. When the people I love tend to end up dead or hurt. I don't know what love is. Not the kind he's talking about. "Marcus I..."
"I know you don't love me Ally." He said cutting me off.
"I don't know anything about love." I whispered. "Not that kind. I can't."
"Can't, or won't?" He asked me.
"Both." I answered. "I wish it were different Marcus. But I am a Rouge. And that won't change because you are mate. You are an Alpha. It is always going to be Alpha against Rouge. History is littered with examples. It's why Fredrick's mate is dead. Why my parents are dead. It's why I can't love you." I stepped back from him and started back towards my truck and soon Fred was right next to me. "I had no other options Fred."
"You're scared." He said and I growled. "You are. But Ally, be happy, you have a mate. Don't throw that away. I'd give anything to have Sky back. Anything. And you have a mate but you're too scared to let yourself care about him."
"I don't want a mate Fredrick." I replied quietly.
"Mates are a good thing Ally."
"Are they?" I questioned. "Look at what having a mate did to you. You aren't happy. You're broken. I see that lost heart broken look in you eyes after all these years. Being mates is what got my parents killed. I use to be a Rouge before I got a mate. Now I can't be. All I ever wanted was to live my life the way I want. To be free to go anywhere without having anything to hold me back. No one to tell me I can't. No one who can order me and I have to listen. Now I can't do that."
"Then leave." He said.
"I can't. Because my cousins will pay the price for my freedom. So I can't."
"You still only depend on yourself after all these years. It's okay to let someone take care of you." Fred told me.
I shook my head, "I can't depend on someone else when they'll just die or leave. I have to take care of myself. I hope you're happy leaving with the man who murdered Sky, Fredrick." I got in my car and started driving after linking Marcus that he could find me on the next piece of No Man's land when he finished here.

"Alicia!" Marcus yelled. I guess he found me. I groan and put my arm over my closed eyes. "Alicia!" He growled again.
I sighed before slowly getting off the bed and opening the motel door to see a shaking Marcus standing in front of the building. I checked the time and groan again before yelling at Marcus in a whisper. "It's 11 pm! People are trying to sleep!"
His head snapped towards mine and his eyes were pitch black. I swallowed but stood my ground knowing that running or even stepping away would not help me at all. He stalked towards me and my every nerve screamed at me to bolt. But I stood my ground. "You should watch your tone Little Mate." His wolf spoke.
I let out a low growl, "Are you sure it's not Filthy Rouge?"
He growled back at me, "Mine!"
"I'm not a possession!" I hissed as he gripped my forearms painfully in his hands. "Let me go! I'm only a Rouge, not a Luna."
"You are my Rouge." He said in a possessive tone.
"Let me talk to Marcus." I ordered his wolf but he shook his head growling. "Let me talk to him!" I snarled. His wolf retreated enough that Marcus could talk to me. "Let me go, Marcus."
