I looked at Opal in shock, I have no words to say. I stand there looking puzzled and in paranoia. How could this have happened? Shouldn't I have been notified of this 3 days before? Why here? Why now?
"You are sure about this?" I say in an exasperated tone.
"Clarimonde..." My sister says seriously. "I would never lie to you about something like this. How did you not know?"
I can see the tears in her eyes, the worry on her creasing brow. I am trying not to think about the sentimental look but all of the memories and the good times we have had together. If this was the last time I was going to see her, I'll make sure she is not sobbing on the ground next to me.
"It must be super important." I say hesitantly. I didn't want her to miss me like she missed our mom for all these years. How could I live with myself? What would happen to her? Maybe it is not the best time to try and make things great, but to try and piece every broken heart and soul back together just to make sure we are OK for when I leave.
"Opal, when did they tell you they were sending me?"
"They told me about...1 week ago. It was the Kings wife, Daina, that warned me of the upcoming recruit."
I look at the clock and see that we are already late for school. What day was it today anyway? I look at my computer and see it is October 5... "HOLY.. NOOOOOO"
"Sis what is wrong?" Opal asks still drowning in her own tears. It is such a shame that there was no room for a pity party for today was election day. The most important day in the Rose Blood Society. Everyone gathers at the Central Academy (creative name huh) to watch as a junior or a senior becomes the new heir of the Dimension. You see, we vampires are NOT immortal. We drink blood, can't go out in the sun, but we definitely do not live forever. We all die at the age of 1000. So after the ruler dies from age, a new era begins with a new leader. It has been this way my whole life... Or so I thought.
"We have to go NOW!" I say in a stern voice. I start to pack up my school bag hurriedly and I notice a new picture of Opal on her phone. I try to remember her face because this might be the last time I see it.
"Clara what the h... OH MY GOSH IT IS THE ELECTION!"
"I know we have to run!"
I guess it is a good thing that we live like 2 minutes away from the school or we would be in SERIOUS JEOPARDY.
As we run through the pouring rain I see my best friend, Madison, waiting for me outside. What was she doing out here? She is someone who I would actually be in favor of being elected. I don't know why, but our whole lives Madison has talked about becoming queen and trying to help the dimension. It was tough, but I know if anyone could handle it, it would be her.
"ITS FREEZING OUT HERE, AND YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE IN THERE GETTING KNIGHTED OR WHATEVER."
Madison looks at me all smug, "You know that's not how it works."
"Yeah of course m'lady."
Madison glares at me and I really see what I am going to miss. All of the good, bad, and in-between moments of our many years friendship.
"What is up with you?" Madison says to me.
I try not to worry her by telling her I am getting sent to Earth but Opal through that right out of the water, "She is getting sent to Earth today, of all people I though you would know." Opal sobs.
Oh of course she had to add that "Of all people I thought you would know crap " Madison is going to feel like the worst friend in the world now.
"When...Or if I am elected...That is the first law I am getting rid of."
"Do you know why people are sent to Earth anyways?"
"I wish I did, it has always been so secretive. I just hope you know that it will be gone and in the past as soon as you come back."
How could Madison be so caring even at a moment like this? It was so...Her. I just stand up and hug her. She is going to be one of the people I miss most.
"I trust you."
We go inside, not really knowing what to expect at this election. I just know that my story in this dimension, near my family...
Won't last much longer.
