FREE

Writhing hair

Travels down her spine

In frivolous strands

And the sifting dirt between we toes

Tickles the child inside

A wide grin

Slips onto her face

As smooth as butter

Because she knows she's free

Without peoples glaring eyes

To ruin her peace

She loves the thick smell of summer drifting through the barbecuing patios

And the warm sun baking her skin

Softly as she jogs freely

In the open field

She stares admiring the array of colors

Bursting from the sky

Like subtle fireworks

She falls back into the cool grass

The tickle of the shifting creatures beneath make her itch

But she stares longingly at the fading sunlight

And the nagging longing of how she loves to be out here

Her cheeks become hot

And salty streaks burn into her face

Creating dancing waterfalls that trickle onto her blouse

Yet her smile holds

Through the crippling heart ache

And as the twinkling lights emerged

Behind the suns facade

She realized that she was a star

A mesmerizing ball of gas

Hidden behind the sunny mask put up

For those unlike her

She giggles at the comparison

Graciously growing greatly brighter

She pushes for her star to break through

To over shine the blinding rays of the sun

The dampening darkness of the night

She implodes as streaking lights burst

Through the simple veil

Protecting her from the destructive views of others

Her heart pounds deafeningly loud

And sweat pours on her body like a refreshing bath

Her eyes open abrupt as she stares into darkness

The moon casting eerie shadows in her room

The window in her bedroom sits open as the summer breeze wafts in bringing the smell of barbecue with it

Sirens ring in the front yard and lights dance along the front of the house

And back walls of her room

Heavy breathing comes from her chest

And she sighs for the dream

Swiping the sweat from her dripping head she lay back down into the dissatisfying bed

But Her body lightly gleams

Even after the sirens disappear into the night
