"Mommy? Daddy? Where are you?" The small girl looks around aimlessly. Her eyes scanning the black scene. She holds onto her stuff animal tighter as she walked deeper into the rubble of what used to be her home.

She calls out one more time before finally falling to her knees and crying into her hands. "Mommy! Daddy!" She cries out louder but as predicted, she got no reply.

Suddenly, a gentle hand falls onto the little girl's shoulders. Startled, she jumps back to her feet and quickly turns around. Though her sniffles she looks at the female figure. "Who are you?" The woman takes a couple steps forward to the little girl and crouches to her height.

"Where is my mommy and daddy?" The little girl asks another question. This time the woman removes her large hat that was covering her face. Her features looked similar to that of her mother's except for some small differences.

"Sweet little (your name), we have never met, but I am your mother's sister."

"You're my auntie?" You ask for clarification.

"Yes my dear. I was the one who sent you your birthday gifts all these years." Your aunt gently smiles before looking around at the wrecked home. "I was on my way to celebrate your birthday in person but" she pauses trying to think of something. You instead took your aunt's gloved hand and gave it a squeeze.

She woman smiles at you and guides you out of the rubble. "Come (your name), I will provide you a new home. I will take care of you. I promise."

With one last glance at your old home, you allow more tears to fall. You wave goodbye to your mom and dad and the memories you had with them that burned up along with the house.

You were young but you were also aware that kids around your age often did lose their parents. This was the early 1900s and you were just happy to have a mom for the first stages in your life. Most of your friends at the time lost their mothers when they were born. So losing your mom now was heartbreaking, but you had a feeling that one day you and her would be separated for good.

Now, you were just glad you had your aunt with you. She kept her promises and kept you safe. She kept you healthy and loved. You didn't want anything more. She was there to comfort you when you had your breakdowns over your loss of your parents. Now you were there for her when she lost her husband.

You both go through the thick and thin together. You trusted her so much that you were fine when she did her medical practices on you.

"Auntie, what are you writing about?" You walk into the candle lit room which surprised your aunt. She quickly slams her journal shut and turns around. "(Your name)? You should be asleep. Why are you awake?" She raises an eyebrow. You snuggle with your stuff animal and whisper, "I had a nightmare again. Of the same thing too."

Your aunt sighs and picks you. "(Your name), how many times do I need to assure you? The dead will not come back alive to eat the living--"

"Then why are you trying to bring uncle back?" You point to what used to be the bathroom but now houses your uncle's corpse.

"That I will explain to you when you are older my dear." She pets your head and lays you back down in your bed. She turns to leave but you grab her hand and smile.

"No, I want to know now! I want to know about the Seraph of the End!" You giggle. Before pulling out all the old research papers your aunt has written down.
