Hugh looks at me with - what i suppose are fake - innocent eyes waiting patiently for my answer.

"I invited him," I respond at last, not aware of the reason why that was my response.

"You can't invite him, this isn't your house," He glares.

"Ethan, sit down," His father orders and like an infant lion obeying its king, he sits on the seat in front of me.

Breaking the awkwardness, someone rings the doorbell, and I can tell that we are all thankful for that distraction.
"Who is that?" Ethan speaks everyone's thought.

Mrs Wembley doesn't respond as she gets up and rushes towards the entrance.

"Mother!" She squeaks excitedly hugging an elder woman.

Everyone automatically stands up when she makes her way to the table.

"Hi, Laurie," Mr Wembley greets, hugging her and giving her a kind kiss on the cheek.

She does that to everyone else on the table until it's my turn. I pat the bottom of my dress and smile awkwardly.

She comes in pulling her arm out for a handshake but instead  I instinctively embrace her to end the greeting.
She pats my back, "Okay sweetie—" She whispers and lets go.

We're off to a great start now, aren't we...?
