"Regan!" My mom came running into my room. I groaned "What mom?" I sat up and when I saw her I was shocked. She was crying. "Mom what’s wrong?"

"Your Aunt got into an accident."

"Oh no is she ok?" I asked worriedly.

She shook her head, "I have to go there, I’m the only one left to take care of her."

"Go I’ll be fine by myself." I reassured her.

She gave me a hug then went to pack. I rubbed my eyes and went into the bathroom. I took a quick shower and then changed into a denim skirt and black t-shirt. I straightened my dark red hair which fell in the middle of my chest. It looked almost maroon when I straightened it....almost. My mom had left before I was finished. I walked downstairs and made my favorite power smoothie for breakfast. By the time I was finished it was eleven. I texted my best friend Elise.

Hey wanna hang out?

She texted me back immediately.

Regan we need to talk, I’m coming over.

I texted back

um ok?

Why did Elise need to talk to me? I hadn’t done anything wrong. Ten minutes later the door bell rang. I ran downstairs and opened the door. Standing next to Elise was my boyfriend Daniel. "Hey" I was so confused as to why they were both here. " Regan I’m cheating on you with Elise." Daniel said suddenly. I looked at him shocked. "I’m sorry Regan we really like each other" Elise practically whispered. "Well then have fun together" I said coldly as I slammed the door shut. Tears streamed down my face as I slowly walked back into the kitchen. I spent the whole day watching movies and eating ice cream. Around midnight I decided to go to bed. I slipped on my green plaid pajama shorts and a gray t-shirt. I ended up crying myself to sleep. I was startled awake by the sound of gun shots. I jumped out of my bed and ran to the window. I saw a car speeding away down my street. I was about to turn around when I spotted movement in my front yard. I looked closer and realized that it was a person. The person looked injured. I ran downstairs and yanked open the front door. Then I stopped. I should just call the cops, I had no idea who this person was. I couldn’t just go running out to them. I also couldn’t let whoever it was bleed to death while I was debating with myself, so I decided to help him. I ran across the front yard and stopped a few feet short of the person. The person looked up at me and I saw his face clearly in the light of a street lamp. He had black hair that curled just above his mesmerizing gray eyes. He was wearing a wife beater and jeans. I noticed blood dripping down his arm. "What happened?" I whispered. He glared at me, "I got shot." I gasped, "I should call an ambulance."

"No, don’t." he grabbed my ankle. I tugged it away from him and took a step back. "You need to leave, they might come back" he whispered. His voice sounded rough and I could tell he was in a lot of pain. I bent down and grabbed his non-injured arm, "I can’t let them hurt you again, you’ll bleed all over my nice lawn" I smirked. The edges of his lips curved up a little but then were disfigured in pain. I helped him up and lead him into my house. I couldn’t believe I was bringing a stranger into my house. I must be crazy. I lead him into the kitchen and he leaned against the counter. He was very tall compared to my "5'5" frame. I guessed he was about six feet. His body was lean and muscular and I couldn’t help but make quick glances at him. I ran into the bathroom and grabbed the first aid kit. When I got back he was holding his arm over the sink as blood streamed out. I grimaced. I wasn’t a huge fan of blood. I turned on the water and cleaned his arm off. I spotted something shiny lodged into his bicep. "Oh my God" I gasped and covered my mouth, "the bullet is still in your arm." He looked down at it, "Well wadda know?" He faked surprise. "Your extremely calm for someone who just got shot" I said as I dug around for tweezers. "Well if I freaked out then you would freak out, and then nothing would get done." I rolled my eyes and grabbed the tweezers. "Your in a gang aren’t you?" I asked suddenly. He looked up and anger flashed through his eyes so briefly that I might’ve imagined it. "Sure am" he answered sounding tired. I dropped the subject then put his arm under a lamp. "This might hurt a little." "Lovely" he muttered. I dug the tweezers into his arm and closed them around the bullet. He winced but didn’t say a word. "Almost there" I mumbled as I slowly dragged the bullet out. He exhaled and his arm relaxed. I grabbed some gauze and started wrapping his arm. "So what’s your name?" I asked trying to make conversation. "Colson"
