At the age of eleven I saw my parents fall to their death. Taken from me because the circus owner didn't pay the protection fee. I was orphaned because of someone's greed. I stood alone at the top of the trapeze post, Curled up, forehead against the cold wood. Hugging myself wanting to disappear. Part of me wanted to dive off and follow my parents but how hard I tried to move I wasn't budging. That was until a loud crash sounded, I looked up noticing the huge dark bat figure emerge from the broken skylight. I watched in amazement as it dropped down. Fighting off the goons that had been trying to get me too.
I looked down over the edge at the magnificent creature fight. After all the goons were down he turned looking up at me. Fear washed over me, what if he wasn't trying to save me? What if I was next? I slid back, my back hitting the post I hugged my knees to my chest. The audience was silent. My screams echoed through the arena as he jumped up.
"I'm not going to hurt you." He said I opened my tightly closed eyes, looking up at him. He stuck out his hand I hesitantly took it. He jumped down. I clutched onto him tighter it wasn't until my feet touched the ground I noticed the arena clearing out in a hurry. I looked at my parents. Running over I dropped to my knees at their sides. Sirens blared in the distance. I took my mother's limp hand squeezing it. I looked over at my father. The blood running from their fractured skulls. One of my many salty tears fell onto my mother's porcelain like cheek. I looked back at the man.
"Who did this?" I asked a tear streaming down my cheek
"I don't know, I'll find out and put them behind bars. I promise you that." He said I looked back down at my parents.
"I'd like to help you." I said the corner of his mouth tugged up showing a sliver of a smile and with that he nodded.
