Hey guys! I'm really, really sorry I haven't updated in forever. :( I've been uber busy, but now that it's summer, I actually have time to write. I hope you like this chapter, I worked really hard on it, and I made it longer. (: Tell me what you think in the comments. Don't forget to vote, too! Oh! Song on the side, as well :)
“This is going to suck.” I muttered under my breath as I walked towards the band room with Alex. She chuckled. “Yeah probably, but you’ll enjoy every second of it.” My face reddened. I knew she was right. I didn’t want to hurt Jane, but I really, really liked Chase. Alex was the only one who I had told about the Chase situation. She was really cool, and was good at keeping secrets. She’s become one of my closest friends since moving here. Probably because she’s sarcastic, has an amazing music taste, always has something witty so say, and she’s just an all-around fun person. I growled at her and pushed open the doors to the band room. Alex laughed at me again and followed behind.
Immediately, I was hit with the cool A/C that the band room had a never ending supply of. I walked over to my locker to get my drum sticks and Alex made her way to the Pit. I inhaled deeply, loving the smell of the room. Awards decorated the walls, band instruments lay in random places, and everyone was in different clusters, talking. When I walked in here, I always feel like there isn’t a worry in the world. It’s not just marching band that makes the place so special. It’s the memories, the people, the music, the hard work that makes coming in at five-thirty in the morning worth it.
Two hands squeezed my sides, making me jump and hit my head on the bottom of my locker door. I turned around, rubbing my head. When I saw the culprit, my eyes narrowed. “What do you want, Kaleb?” He smirked. “Kein wanted the drum line outside now. Watch your head, though.” I scowled at him and stomped outside to see what was up.
When I walked out the doors, every head turned in my direction. They all turned back to Mr. Kein right after they saw who it was, thought. Well, all accept one. Chase. I stood behind Kaleb, waiting to hear what this was about.
“Okay, well some of you may know that we’ve make some…adjustments in our ballad. Actually, we’ve added in a part. I’m going to let you be surprised at practice today, but when you see it, don’t be freaked out. I just wanted to warn you guys. See you in ten on the field!” With that, my skinny band director made his way back inside, leaving the drum line in confusion.
I saw Chase walking towards me, making my heart rate speed up. He stopped about a foot away from me, a usual grin on his face. Then, he held out his arms, looking for a hug. I stepped towards him slowly, wondering why he wanted to hug me. “What are you going to do?” I inquired. He chuckled. “Nothing, you look sad. Give me a freaking hug.” I raised an eyebrow, but wrapped my arms around him anyways. His cologne overwhelmed my senses. It smelled so sweet. I could have stayed there forever, but I remembered quickly that I wasn’t supposed to like him. I pulled away and looked up at him. “So, why so sad?” He asked me. “I’m not sad.” I said back.
“You’re a bad liar.” He chuckled.
“Seriously, I’m not sad.” I repeated.
He frowned. “But, your eyes look depressed.” And it was true. I did have really sad looking eyes. I could be the happiest person in the room, but my eyes would make me look like I was almost in tears. I shook my head.
“I’m not sad Chase.” He rolled his eyes, and then looked down at me.
“This is the part where I pretend like I believe you.” I laughed a little and started walking towards the field. Chase stuck by my side the whole walk there, trying to get me to tell him why I’m “sad”.
“I’m not sad.” I said for what seemed the millionth time in the last five minutes.
“Yes you are.”
