"Camila, wait!" I stop mid-step. A boy my age runs up to me. We are in the main hallway at our high school.

"Hi, Cisco," I greet him, smiling.

Cisco, short for Francisco, is my best guy friend. Recently, however, with the help of my best friend, Lucia, I've started to like him as more than a friend. Around him, I feel safe and happy. We've been friends for two years, since the 7th grade.

"Are you excited for the school field trip tomorrow?" he asks, "because I am!"

Our school is going on a big field trip to a park, called Franklin Mountains State Park. It is a scenic place with hiking trails.

I nod.

"Do you want to be bus partners?" he asks.

My heart soars.

"Yes, yes, yes!" I say, maybe a little too enthusiastically, because Cisco looks at me weirdly.

"I mean, sure. It'll be fun! I don't know how long it'll take, but I'm sure it won't be a terribly long trip. I'm not a big fan of long road trips. I mean, it depends on your idea of a long trip and mine, so-" I quickly cut myself off, seeing that I am now babbling. My face turns red.

"It's cute when you ramble," Cisco says, staring at me. My face turns even redder.

--

"I can't believe it's here!" Cisco is saying to Lucia as I walk up from behind them.

It is eight o'clock in the morning a few days later. All of the students are outside, waiting for the busses. A few teachers try to herd everyone together.

"Hello, guys," I say.

"Camila!" Cisco exclaims, giving me a tight hug. I blush as Lucia wiggles her eyebrows.

"Are you ready, bus partner?" he says, grinning. I smile and nod.

"Guess what? I'm going to be sitting right behind you on the bus, guys!" Lucia says, happily, "I'll be sitting with Anne Marie."

Anne Marie is a mutual friend of ours.

In less than ten minutes, we are sitting on the bus. It's a fairly small bus, so the seats aren't very roomy. Cisco and I are sitting very close. But I don't mind.

"Brace yourself, Camila," he says, "because this'll be the best field trip ever!"

--

Half an hour later, we arrive.

"Camila, will you be my hiking partner?" he asks.

"Yeah, totally!" I say with a lot of enthusiasm, "I mean, sure, whatever, that's cool."

Cisco laughs.

"You're really funny!" he says.

We get with our partners, hear a little speech from an administrator, and get hiking. Cisco and I take the intermediate trail because used to go hiking near my house.

Our one hour hike is filled with laughter: We almost get lost. Twice. I pushed Cisco into a small puddle of water, and when I grabbed his hand to help him up, he pulled me in, too. Finally, we ended with a bird pooping on Cisco's backpack and him chasing me with it for a few minutes, causing us to almost get lost for the third time.

"I had so much fun, Camila," he says as we get into our seats, "you made this trip special."

I blush as the bus starts up and we head home. Both Cisco and I fall asleep on the way.

I wake up half an hour later to Lucia tapping on my shoulder.

"Psst!" she whispers, "look at your hand."

I look down. There is my hand laying on Cisco's leg. His fingers are entwined with mine. I don't move my hand.

Cisco wakes up a few minutes later. I see him look at our hands and smile. He doesn't move his hand.

Finally, we arrive back at the school. We break apart our hands, blushing and smiling. We walk off of the bus.

"I have to walk home," I tell him, "I should get going."

I turn to leave.

"Wait!" Cisco says. He grabs my hand, and I turn back around. I look at our hands, then at Cisco.

"I really like you, Camila. I really do. I'm so glad that you wanted to be my partner for the trip. I had a great time." I blush and smile.

"I did too. And, I really like you," I reply. Now it's Cisco's turn to blush.

"Brace yourself, Camila," he whispers.

Cisco cups my cheek with one hand, then kisses my cheek. Before I say or do anything, he walks away.

I blush even harder.
