Another World

chapter one

Alot can change during the summer months. Some people's lives are changed forever, some never get to see the next school year......

This did happen to change my life and the lives of my two bestfriends..... Forever. It was the summer of 2021 I had just graduated from grade 12 and was planning to enjoy summer vacation before college starts.

The changes started on my birthday....July 20th.

I had just woken up to the smell of blueberry pancakes and wondered why my mom was cooking them. Then I remembered.....it's my birthday!!!!! My 18th birthday.

I was determined to make this the greatest birthday yet....looking back I feel bad for my innocent self.... This will turn into the most hated day of my life forever.

I jumped out of my bed and ran into the kitchen excited. My mother, father and younger siblings were laughing at me for forgetting my own birthday.

Since it's all I've been talking about for the past few weeks. Micha my baby brother squealed in delight when I scooped him up out of his high chair and planted a kiss in his little nose.

I laughed as he gave me some wet kisses and squealed him. Then I set him back in his high chair. "Hey mom when are Wanniya and Yamini getting here?" I asked my mom.

"In about 20 minutes honey" my mom said. Well at least they didn't forget like last year I smile. 20 minutes later on the dot the door bell rings.

I jump up from the couch I was perched on and ran for the door. As I open the door Kikuyu comes crashing down the hall after me. She's screaming "they are here" over and over again loudly.

She squished in beside me which made it kind of hard to open the door I think as I roll my eyes. I managed to get the door open anyways. When my sister's came in everybody came out to see and greet them.

They were both in university, Yamini was at Yale and Wanniya was at Harvard. It was going to be hard for me to get into Stanford but I pulled off all my exams and I just need to take the entrance exam.

We all crowded in the small living room. Yamini was telling mom about how university was going and how she got a great doctor boyfriend. It was a big surprise when Wanniya announced that she was engaged.

I could not believe it ! Wanniya was one of the shyest girls and I never even knew she had a boyfriend. I was very happy for her and Yamini looked like she was going die.

"You never even said a word about this in the taxi here!!!!! I thought I was your twin!" Yamini then pretended to be really hurt. Everyone started congratulate her and mom had gone off to call grandma and grandpa about the engagement.

When she came back she said "grandma and grandpa are coming over now !!" I looked at her and frowned. "Mom grandma and grandpa were already coming over?" I say to her. "They are coming over earlier to congratulate Wanniya on her engagement this is a big deal Ringwen!" She said.

Wow thanks grandma and grandpa guess I'm not so special after all.

My mother had a glazed look on her face. It slightly bothered me for some reason. The doorbell rang again 5 minutes later.

It was my grandparents. I let my younger sister Kikuyu answer the door this time. My grandma came in the door and I heard her say. "Oh Kikuyu where's that sister of yours!" "Ringwen is in the kitchen with mom" Kikuyu says.

"Oh not Ringwen, I wanted to congratulate Wanniya dear" my grandmother says. "But it's Ringwens 18th birthday she's old!" Kikuyu says to our grandmother confused.

I laughed to myself and walked into the hallway. My grandma walked right past me without even glancing at me and headed straight into the livingroom with Wanniya.

My grandpa came and gave me a big hug and congratulated me on turning 18. "Wanniya is waiting in the livingroom for you" I say. He patted me on the head and winked. I then went into my room to read the new book my sister Kikuyu gave me this morning.

Everyone was congratulating Wanniya really loudly which made me scowl. Ugh why do they have to be so loud. There was another knock at the door and nobody went to answer it. I waited a few seconds.

Still nobody came... Weird. I got up from my bed and laid the book down. I never finished that book.
