Disingenuous

Chapter 1: budding friendships

CHAPTER 1

ZANE

               I could see the world in Kings laugh. That doesn't make sense, but He had a strong laugh that revived any room he occupied. After two years of this infatuation his enchantment never wore, he had me enthralled. His perfection didn't stop at his beautiful deep brown skin and the defined coils of his hair that were practically artisanal in the way they were cut.

"Let me take a wild guess, you're obsessing over King once again?" My best friend Landon asked me as he set his tray down. "How'd you know?'' I smiled as I shot him a sly grin  him. Rolling his eyes he stated, "You know wild suggestion, maybe you should just talk to him." That was the funniest thing I've heard all damn year. "You say that as if its easy." I sighed and stole a fry from his tray. The fries tasted like cardboard but I kept chewing them as a distraction.

"It's as easy as you make it." This is why I hate Landon. God damn. He always makes it seem like everything is super easy. Which it is for him cause he's straight. He can just go up to any girl and ask them if their interested. If they're not they just politely say no. For me Rejection could lead to a threat on my security- if that makes sense.

"Whatever, can you let me go back to my oogleing?"

"Sure but its junior year. You have so little time to snatch him"

"Are you guys talking about King?" Lele asked as she sat down. I looked away in embarrassment. "We only have one more year if you don't befriend him soon he'll become the one that got away."
"I don't remember asking either of you for input." I said sassily as they rolled their eyes. "We're only trying to help you, dweeb." Landon replied in a snappy manner.
I knew they had good intentions, and I do want to be with King but the outcome of his rejection might hurt more than the pain of never trying. How could I even begin talking to King?

"My friend Ji Yeon is coming home with us today, we have a project." Kiko, my twin stated. Ji Yeon waved from besides her. He looked familiar but I couldn't put my finger on where I've seen him before. He is attractive though, so it's odd to think that I could forget his face.
As soon as I parked Kiko and I's car I opened iMessage and immediately went to the group chat with my two best friends.

Me: Do either of you know who Ji Yeon is? He seems so familiar but idk where from.

Landon: he's in AP Lit with me, and hes Kings best friend ;)

Lele: Why does everything we say end up back to King, like don't get me wrong he's fine and all but can we just talk about some other things every now and then?

Landon: Like what?

Lele: Like how I'm on the verge of an emotional breakdown.

Me: Bitch, me too. You're not special.

Lele: All you do is make vine references and talk about King.

Me: What's wrong with that? Let me be myself.

Landon: Why did you need to know about Ji Yeon in the first place?

Me: My sister brought him over to our house

Landon: Why aren't you freaking out, mate?

Me: Why should I be?

Lele: What an idiot.

Landon: If Ji Yeon is friends with King then maybe you can finally talk to him.

Me: I didn't even think about that...

They were right. This was finally my chance to get close to my biggest highschool crush. All that's left now is to get close to Ji Yeon.

"Zane?!" Kiko called from downstairs. "Yeah?" I responded. "Could you please take Ji Yeon home, I still have so much homework to do?" My immediate response was going to be no, but then I remembered that I have some ass kissing to do. "Sure, I've got nothing else to do."

Before I began to drive I plugged in the aux cord and began to play reggae.

"So... the weather is nice." After this was when I realized small talk is surely not my strong suit, but what I can do well is flirting. "The temperature is the best in early October before fall really starts." He replied in a surprisingly poised voice. When we hit a red light I looked at him for a few seconds before my eyes went back to the light. "What's your at (@)?"
"My at?" He asked puzzled. "Yeah like your Instagram name."
"Oh. Why?"
"Just wanna keep in contact with such a beauty." I smiled as a spoke. "Oh then... Its-" His sentence was interrupted by Google maps announcing our arrival at his house

Stupid robot, tricks are for kids.

"Well, bye." He said with a sweet smile as he entered his house.

Darn.

After finishing my homework i looked at my notifications to see if anything of interest had occured in the three hours I wasn't using it. The one notification I had on Instagram was a follow request from @Ji.Y . I smiled as I hit accept and follow back. What a beautiful way to end a night.

Authors note (A/N): I created part one of this story freshman year so this
Entire first chapter was created by freshman year me. Now as a junior I saw it again and thought it'd be fun to get back into writing and so the rest of the story is probably going to have a different energy from this first chapter because I've sort of changed my vernacular, and my writing has gotten pretty rusted, antiquated if you will. <= sorry for that ramble (also feel free to correct my grammar and spelling)
