Everett's POV
Heading towards the exit of the school, I got a strange feeling. Something was itching in my brain, as if my own brain was trying to tell me something, but was hiding it at the same time. I shook my head, trying to get rid of the feeling. When I reached the gate of the school, I stood still for a moment, closing my eyes, face lifted to the sun. I sighed, and let its warmth heat me up. I loved the feeling of the sun on my skin. It made me feel as if I belonged here. Suddenly, I became aware of someone staring. My head snapped to my right, and there was a girl, leaning against her motorbike, staring at me with a strange, expecting look in her eyes. I stared back, so she would know I knew she was staring. I saw her slowly turning to her bike, putting on her helmet, and driving off.
When I got home, my little sister came running to me, enthousiastically yelling. "Everett! Everett! He is here, he is born! Come, see him, Everett, look!" I laughed, and took Britts little hand in my own. She dragged me along. For an eight year old, she had a lot of strength. Probably because of the horseback riding. She loved it, and so did I. We had over 50 horses at the barn at the moment. But my mom's mare had been pregnant, and the foal was finally born. I walked with Britt towards the stables, they were connected to the house. She lead me to Lucy's box and peeping into the box, I saw a beautiful little, complete black, stallion, trying to stand up to drink. "When was he born?" I asked, amazed by him standing up. "A few hours ago" Britt said. "Ah, see you have met Thanatos?" My mom came walking into the stables with a broom in her hand and pieces of hay sticking out of her hair. "Thanatos? Like the Greek God of Death?" "Exactly like that one!" She laughed. "Why?" I asked, lifting one eyebrow. My mom never gave our horses negative names, they were all fun and sweet, nothing like the God of Death. "I don't know, because he's so black, and he gave me the chills when he was born." "He scared you? Mom, it is a horse, dramaqueen!" I said, laughing. She just stuck her tongue out, and went out of the stables to put the broom away. I entered the box, to look at Thanatos. He came curiously forward, a little unsteady, but very cute. I touched his nose, but he didn't back away. "Courageous little thing", I mumbled. I closed the box again, heading inside the house.
Sitting in the truck, music blasting through my speakers and my head nodding along to the beat. I was going to a party, organised by a girl in my school. I pulled up at the driveway when I noticed someting in the corner of my eye. I turned around to see it better, and yes, my eyes hadn't betrayed me. A little bit further was the motorbike from the girl at school standing. I looked at it in amazement, and then hopped out of my car. I went to the motorbike, carefully looking around to see she was nowhere in sight. Next to her bike there was a sleek black BMW standing, with tinted windows. I was looking at the bike in awe, as I heard a voice behind me. "You like my bike?" Turning around, I saw the same girl standing that stared at me a few hours ago. She had brown hair at the top, that flowed over to light blond at the tips. It was slightly in waves, and reached her back. Her eyes were a weird mix between green and grey. She was small and had a smile on her lips. She was wearing a skinny black jeans, with a dark red bra (or so I thought) and a black leather jacket. Black boots with heels completed her look. I stared at her in confusion. Who was this chick?! She was looking at me weirdly, probably expecting an answer. I mumbled something and pushed past her and her five friends.
I walked until I saw some friends and stood with them. I got a beer handed to me by someone, and was sipping on it thoughtfully, thinking about the girl. I looked in front of me and saw her and her friends standing next to the car, talking and glancing my way. I studied her friends. Close to her was standing a tall boy with blonde curls, wearing a jeans with a white button-up shirt tucked into his pants, with a belt. His shoes were those kind of very neat shoes businessmen wear. He had very light blue eyes, almost grey, and he was looking nervously from one to another, talking as if he was angry. Next to him was standing a pretty girl. She had very dark brown hair that fell a little above her shoulders in waves. She looked a little bit asian. Her eyes were very dark brown. She was wearing loose black pants with a dark green top and a jeans oversized jacket and white sneakers. She was silent but put her hand on the boy's shoulder, and he calmed immediately. Another boy standing to her side came forward and took her hand. He was not as tall as the first boy, and looked a bit innocent. He had light brown hair that wasn't too long. His eyes were the same brownish caramellike colour as his hair and he was smiling and talking calmly while still holding the girl's hand. He was wearing a jeans with a dark blue shirt and sneakers. Next to him stood a dark blonde boy in a black hoodie. He looked a bit scary. He was dressed all black, and his white skin and blonde hair were in contrast with his black clothes. His hands were shoved into his pockets and he was looking annoyed. He didn't say anything but just rolled his eyes at some comments. Between him and the first girl, stood the complete opposite of him. A breathtaking tall girl with beautiful blonde long hair that was straight and reached her lower back. She had eyes that were bright blue and mesmerizing. She was wearing a white dress with golden shoes underneath and she looked like an angel. She talked a lot and intensively, shooting me glances filled with pity. I turned towards my friends again, kind of freaked out by these people.
A little bit drunk I stumbled back to my car, tired of the party. I hadn't seen those freaks anymore all night, so I was glad. The bike and BMW were gone too, good. I got into my car, and started driving home. On my way home a weird feeling crept unto me, as if something was terribly wrong. It grew more and more as I was getting closer and closer to my house. When I turned into my street, I was blinded by the sun. I was very confused for a few seconds, realizing that it was night. I blinked a few times to see what was going on. Suddenly it hit me, the whole barn was on fire, and so was my house. I stared some minutes at the fire, frozen with fear. A flush of adrenaline poured over me, and I fell out of my car, trying to run to my house. Before reaching my house I heard screams coming from the barn. Running into the fire, I couldn't see anything because of the smoke. I heard Britt screaming very close by. I ran in the direction of her voice, trying to ignore the heat and flames. Suddenly I saw her before me. She was dancing, or that was what it looked like at first. In horror I realized, that she wasn't dancing, she was shaking and moving because she was on fire. I stepped forward but right when I wanted to grab her, she fell to the ground dead silent, her eyes spread wide-open, and her mouth still screaming without sound. Very clear, I realized she was dead. I couldn't look at her burning face, that at the moment didn't even look like hers anymore. Instead of doing something, I just stood there in shock, thinking about what she was even doing in here. I looked at where she lay, and saw that she had been trying to open the stables in order to save the horses. Reaching out to the box she was trying to open, my hand froze mid-air. My mom was lying on the burnt body of what I assumed was Lucy. She had her hands, or what was left of them, clasped around the neck of her beloved horse. She was black burnt and Lucy too. I stared with a weird kind of amazement into the box, and somewhere far away in my mind, I realized that it was the only box that wasn't burning, or at least not anymore. Suddenly, a little black thing moved in the corner of the box. Thanatos? How is he still alive? The little foal was looking at me with a creepy calmness, and looking at him made me, in the midst of a fire, cold to the bone. I opened the box without fully knowing what I was doing and stood outside of the box looking at Thanatos. I became slowly aware of an itch all over my body. A little bit annoyed I looked down, realizing my whole body was on fire too. I was too much in shock to even realize this. I sank to the ground, waiting for my death. I didn't care if I died, so I was sitting against Lucy's box, waiting for Death. Suddenly, pain came flooding over me and I had never felt this kind of pain before. I was dying. And I had a strange peace of mind with that. I felt myself slowly passing out, but right before I sled into the darkness, I felt Thanatos lying next to me. Suddenly something started burning inside of me. Now I knew for sure, this was my end. I closed my eyes and thought about my family. Right before I gave myself fully to Death, I felt a weird kind of energy, something similar to an adrenaline rush, then, blackness.
