It was the night of halloween when it was time for Annie to go home from a long boring day at school.She was on her way home when she decided to take a different path home where there was a quiet neighbourhood and a weird land of trees dancing in the wind as bits of darkness filled the clear white lifeless sky.
She also noticed how there was no one anywhere near her.She carried on walking when she heard footsteps and suddenly halted as she heard heavy breathing coming from behind her but as she turned around, it stopped as there was no one there and rustling was heard and at that moment, Alice quickened her pace until she was no longer walking but running towards a nearby street when just as she walked past an old cottage, something whispered the words '' black coffee,black coffee it's halloween black coffee black coffee''. Annie was shook by the words.
Annie was so confused but didn't care and just ran home to quickly get ready for the party at her friend Alice's house. She was going to her friend's party dressed as cat woman.
"I can't wait for the partyyyy its going to be so much fun!!" squealed Annie as she got her cat ears and tail ready, she put on her new dress on and was about to get out the door when her mother stopped her pointing to her little brother, Jack sitting.
" Today me and your father are going out for a special dinner and you will have to stay at home as Jack is too young to be left alone" said her mother.
"But the party!! I can't miss it!!" exclaimed Annie but her mother replied " It will have to be another time i'm afraid".
Annie let out a deep sigh and obeyed her mom and just sat down in her costume texting her friend Alice telling her "I might not be able to attend the party as my parents are out and i have to babysit Jack".
Alice told her it was ok. Her parents went out and Annie and Jack sat in the living room fighting over the remote. Jack was really annoying so Annie just gave up.
Annie just sighed deeply as she was thinking how the party would have been fun if i was there but now she was stuck here babysitting him. Jack went upstairs to sleep as he was tired but Annie didn't care what he did.
After a while, the house phone rang and Annie called Jack to pick it up and he said there was no answer on the other end so Annie took the phone and then the phone buzzed and cracked.
There was another voice on the line, it said the same thing as before "black coffee, black coffee, it's halloween, black coffee black coffee" Annie was scared and the person on the other end cut the phone. Jack asked who it was but Annie gave no reply.
After a while, the phone rang again and Annie picked it up slowly and listened. It was the same person repeating the same thing over and over so she cut the phone this time. For the third time, the phone rang and Annie picked it up but this time it was the same voice but was saying something else...
" Come out Annie, can you hear me?" asked the voice. Annie didn't dare speak and gestured to Jack to be quiet. " i know it's you Annie i can hear your breathing come out Annie" replied the voice then finished by saying "black coffee black coffee, it's halloween black coffee black coffee " and just laughed and cut the phone.
Annie quickly went upstairs whilst Jack followed her. She told Jack " Jack close all the doors and windows and if any trick or treaters come, don't open the door ok?". Jack nodded in confusion.
She changed into her night clothes and calmed herself down and just told herself "It was just a prank call and so it's halloween so there is nothing to be worried of".
She looked outside of her parents' bedroom and called Jack as she saw something weird. "Hey jack do you see a figure behind the tree?". Jack replied " O yeh it's like a tall figure must be a tall trick or treater hmm".
"Yeh but look don't you think it looks a bit weird as it is hiding behind our front tree? and why does it have a suit on?". Jack just shrugged. "Omg omg omg no it can't be" Annie said in a panic.
"Jack get me the phone now!". " But why?" " I said now!!!" screamed Annie as she grabbed the phone off Jack and dialled 911/999.
"Hello this is the West Midlands police, how can i help you?" answered the officer. " Please help us it's about us you see there have been someone prank calling us and threatening me and someone is about to kill us and i know it's halloween but it's not false it's tr-" Annie just splurted out in panic when the officer replied " Look here kid i know it is halloween but that doesn't mean you can prank call the police on a joke matter. This has to be serious".
"But this is serious. Only me and my brother are at home as my parents are out and outside i can see a tall figure of a man maybe wearing black suit and is hiding behind a tree" Annie said. "Wait what?" replied the officer.
" A tall man with a suit on and i don't think he has a face as all i can see is white and he is really tall- omg omg please send help. He is looking at me now". exclaimed Annie.
"Ok ok calm down where is your brother is he ok? what's he doing now?" asked the officer. " My brother is sleeping and is quiet but he doesnt seem okay. I'm scared please help me!!" cried Annie.
The phone cracked amd the officer heard "Black coffee black coffee its halloween, black coffee black coffee" and the line cracked again to hear Annie. "Omg omg he is coming near the window of the room downstairs!!!"
"Ok miss please calm down they are on their way. Just hide somewhere". Replied the officer. Before Annie could reply, there was a smash of glass as the window broke. " Hello miss? miss are you ok?" Annie muted the phone and hid in her room in the wardrobe.
She heard someone calling 'Come out Annie, come out wherever you are!!" she didn't dare breathe loud. She saw from a small hole the figure's shadow was near her room and in the hallway. " black coffee black coffee it's halloween black coffee black coffee" and the voice screamed and laughed.
The figure or whatever it was, was scratching on the walls with what seemed to be blood but spelled out 'Annie' as far from what Annie could see.
She breathed a little heavy and the figure heard so it went closer to the wardrobe "Come out Annie i can hear you breathing". Annie just kept quiet but her tears kept dropping. She saw in the hole black but after a dead silence, an scarred eye appeared. It was the same figure she passed!
The officer on the line was asking Annie if she was ok but the officer got a reply of " it's alright now, he wants to play with me haha do you want to play officer?".
The phone cracked again and this time the same voice came saying " black coffee black coffee it's halloween black coffee black coffee there will be nothing to be seen"
" what?" replied the officer. " your daughter will be next, what's her name? o yes Alice Mayor" answered the voice. " No no leave my daughter she-" the phone got cut.
" o shit i need to get home" cried the officer as he went. To be continued...
