Almost eleven years ago, a scientific experiment to reduce the rate of global dimming and therefore improve the quality of life on earth failed, with devastating results. The explosion caused by the chemically filled projectile shot into the atmosphere, which was designed to reduce the build-up of dust particles did the exact opposite. The compounds found inside the small bomb in fact began to react with the dust particles, making them seemingly multiple and become thicker in appearance. In the end the layer became so thick that the majority of the sun's light was unable to shine through, leaving the world in, what most hoped would be, a temporary black out. But that wasn't even the worst of their problems.
Of course, the information about the experiment was disclosed from the public, meaning that the streets where filled with everyday people going about their everyday lives. Just like anyone would on a Saturday night. The last thing anyone expected was for something to suddenly blow up like a deadly firework in the sky but it happened. Small specks of residue fell onto them, carrying millions upon millions of Cell and DNA mutating microorganisms created in the blast down with it. Almost instantly wrecking havoc. People began to change, morph into darker and more demonic versions of themselves. The hairs on their body would begin to moult, their pupils would thin in appearance. Their teeth would elongate, their nails would extend until their spine finally snapped in two and reformed, giving them an arched back and causing them to move about on all fours, closely resembling the look of a hairless dog. An incredibly strong and bloodthirsty dog.
Most believed this was the end of the world as they knew it. Within days the worlds human population had more than halved and people were getting desperate. While some tried to keep order, others chose to do as they pleased. Raiding homes, killing innocents and kidnap were becoming everyday practises for some, let alone other unspeakable activities they did for sport. So people believing it was the end of the world? Maybe you could argue they were half right, but not quite. Because this wasn't the end of the world they knew, just the beginning of a new world they had yet to live in.
There was still hope.
There is always hope.
A few weeks after the explosion a group known as The Rangers were formed. A quartet of females, all from different backgrounds and ages were found fighting the mutants together. They were also among the first survivors to be found both exposed and immune to the effects of the chemical bomb, making them the perfect candidates to become the 'search and rescue' team of the so called 'apocalypse'. Having the protection and safety of other survivors as their main concern. Though each woman has their own job while off duty at SouthDowns Boarding School, all of them are seen roaming the harsh news lands wearing brown shirts or vests.
Three years after the explosion, the first ever fully civilian populated village was in development and being built on the fertile soils of a long inactive volcano. The town, originally built by eleven teenagers and young adults had soon become a thriving town and was named Molten Post. Since then, the town continued to grow until it became the main place of which people came to live, trade and export supplies needed to independently living survivors who couldn't get aid from the military post.
Five years after the explosion and the first main military base was finally set up in the middle of the desert, a little while away from the rest of civilisation. Both men and women who had lost all their loved ones and/or wanted to fight came to live and train here as well as the occasional scientist who wanted to work on finding a solution to the dark, dusty sky. However experiments on the mutants themselves were also acted out at the military base behind everyone's backs, including the soldiers but in truth relieving some interesting results. Proving that the mutation did not pass from person to person via blood or saliva and therefore making the mutants seem less of a threat than what was first feared.
Finally, nine years after the explosion a group known as The Slayers began to patrol the small town of Brixton and the surrounding area including SouthDowns Boarding School and Molten Post. These were a small group of survivors who showed great courage and chose to risk their own lives in order to save others. Using the latest technology, they actively search for the mutants, eliminating them and letting the Rangers take care of the people who remained. Their black, camera fitted jackets and dark trousers make them hard to spot in the dark, the exact lighting in which the mutants adore. But as small as this group may be, they are slowly beginning to increase in numbers. Possibly a little more than they had expected. This is the first of many 'survivor' stories.
So are you sitting comfortably?
Good.
Shall we begin?
