Camila sat with her back against the door, drowning in her music. She couldn't hear it anymore. The yells, the screams and the glass shattering against the cold wall. She didn't hear the back and forth between her two parents or her little sister crying for them to stop. All she heard was her music, and all she saw was her notebook.

She was on her third try of writing another song that expresses her emotions.

She was in the middle of writing her third verse when she felt the sudden bang against her door. So she knew she would spend another night cleaning her mother's face of the dried blood.

She turned her music up even louder and began to silently cry. Her life was a drunken father, and a mother who's use to his hands. Her sister crying behind a sofa covering her ears until Camila picks her up and walks out the door.

She walked down the busy sidewalk of early morning, listening to cars beeping and children laughing on their way to school. She likes looking at happy family's and pretending she was in one.

She walked her sister Sofi to her elementary school and started walking to Miami High, head down and music loud.

Lauren was putting makeup over her bruised eye, in the schools bathroom. She jumped when she saw a small brunette walking in the bath room with Sam Smith blasting loud from her blue headphones. She quietly looked as the girl went into one of the stalls, unaware of Lauren. She heard the girl slide down wall and cry.

Lauren tiptoed toward the stall she was in until the bell rung signaling them to go back to class. Camila barged the stall opened and bumped into Lauren on the way out. Still not acknowledging she was there.

Lauren walked into her class placing her hoodie over her long hair, going to the back of the class. She stopped when she saw the same girl from the restroom sitting in her seat. Instead of making her move she sat down beside her stealing glances until the end of class.

When the girl walked out so did Lauren, picking up a paper the girl dropped and following her to the music room, stoping when the piano started to play and a voice starting to sing.

"For years old, with my back to the door."

"All I could hear was the family war."

Lauren walked in watching as the girl slowly close her eyes with rivers of tears coming from them.

"Your selfish hands always expecting more."
Her voice is Beautiful. Lauren thought. And she cried to as that line was relatable.

"Am I your child, or just a charity ward."
Lauren took a seat , careful not to make a sound to interrupt the girls singing.

She heard the music get louder and watched as more tears poured from her closed eyes.

She brought her hand up to her own eyes noticing more and more liquid flowing from them.

"Hopeless, you're hopeless. Oh father, please father, I'd love to leave you alone but I can't let you go."

The girl was crying even more and it was hard to play and cry and sing all at once so she slowed down.

"Oh father, please father put the bottle down for the love of a daughter." The music came to an end and Lauren wiped her tears. She layed the paper the girl dropped beside her and walked out the room.

All Camila saw was a shadow turning the corner and a paper by her side.

It all came back at once. Why her father is how he is, why her mother turned to drugs, why her brother tried to  kill himself. They all miss her. After her sister died they didn't know what to do. Her dad blamed it on her mom and Chris couldn't take it anymore. Lauren turned to song writing. It was her safe place.
