I better mention right of the bat, I didn't want the life I got handed to me. I didn't want to be different. I would much rather be a perfectly ordinary girl that lived a normal boring teenage life. Instead, what I got is a never present dad who forces decisions down my throat and a muzzle on my mouth. Literally, I've been muzzled before. I mean I'm not a complete pushover...I try to tell myself this often. I try to stand up to him but when your dad's the alpha, you don't really have a choice. Or so I tell myself.

'Owww!' I yelped, pulling my hand back as it got slapped away once again. Smirking up at Gran, who had caught me for the fifth time trying to snatch one of her legendary pastries. That woman had a sixth sense or..you know..heightened senses- like everyone else I suppose. But jeez, it was like a radar system. Waving her flour covered finger at me disapprovingly, she told me once again to go get ready for the guests who were to arrive "shortly" just like she said an hour ago. Seriously I know I'm a girl and all, but why must it take hours to get changed for cherries sake. Especially when with help it takes me no time yet for other people it seems to take even longer? Like how? Hoping to avoid the wrath of my Gran Cathy however, I smirked and winked at her bemused face, turned around and sauntered up the hall. Not stopping or glancing up from my phone until I reached my room at the top of the stairs and to the left down a long corridor of the pack house.

The pack house was home for me, I knew every nook and cranny of this house every bump or dent in the cream walls, every creaking point in every light brown wooden floorboard. I knew the surrounding acres of land like I knew my own face, no matter how big it is, I knew every tree, dip and rise of the land, every pond and river. It was a huge house but still managed to feel warm and cosy, it still managed to feel like a home. Three families lived in this house, my dad, me and my gran, the betas family and the third in commands family too. The rest of the pack lived in surrounding cabins or a few bought their own homes closer to the city.

I grew up here and roamed freely most of the time, going on 'big adventures' in the forest with my best friend and cousin Mel. It was more like we ran to our favourite clearing and played in our wolf forms for hours than actual adventures though that's what we called it. We haven't done that in a while now, because I well...I can't. I was just texting her to hurry up and get her skinny ass over here. Mel is perfection, she is that girl that everyone either envies, wants to be her best friend or wants to kill...sometimes I'm possess all three emotions. Every guys dream girl- with long silken, shiny blonde hair, big soft hazel eyes and a body that had every guy drooling after her with their tongues hanging out. As if her physical perfection wasn't enough she was also one of the nicest and most charming people you'll ever meet. She was always up to date on the next upcoming fashion trend, a fashion sense I defiantly did not possess. We have been best friends most of our lives, ever sense my mum disappeared really.

"On my way" she text me back.

I flopped down on my bed bouncing a little. trying and failing to stifle a massive yawn. Gosh, I really don't know if I'll make it though this dinner, life changing as it's meant to be and all. I lay looking up at my white ceiling, all my concentration going into stopping my eyes from drooping shut.

"Hay bitch" Mels usual greeting was accompanied by the crash of my door hitting my bedroom wall. I jumped at the loud noise.
"Hay chicca, don't curse!" I hissed out at the end. Rolling her eyes Mel came over and perched herself on my bed.
"So tonight's the big night huh?" She said while wiggling her eyebrows at me.
"Yep" I replied popping the 'p'

You see no matter how 'excited' I'm meant to be, I really can't bring myself to be happy about the hell I'm about to go through. I know what will really happen tonight, everyone else, except perhaps my father who like me knows I am not really good enough to be a Luna, assumes it will go off perfectly, I'm slightly more realistic and yes, by slightly I mean I am bordering on pessimistic at times.

You see unlike Mel I am completely average looking. I mean sure I stand out but it's more for the bright red hair than my knockout looks, which are, by the way, nonexistent. I'm around 5'4 with long wavy red hair, big green eyes and plump, pouty, pink lips so yeah I am pretty but I lack that 'sex appeal' Mels always talking about. I am a bit too curvy on my bottom half accompanied by my flat toned stomach and my membership to the ittybittytitty committee. Eugh I'm just not what guys like, I am not beautiful or sexy, meaning tonight will undoubtably end in catastrophe. Like my dad perhaps starting a war, you know the usual family problems.

"So, still dreading it huh?"
"Yep" once again popping the 'p'
"It won't be that bad Lea...I'm sure he'll be ecstatic when he sees you"
"Oh gosh you're as deluded as everyone else!" I face palmed.
"Ha ha. Just cos you think your a plain Jane doesn't mean anybody agrees or that he will. Now, let's get you sexified, your pops can't kill me for doing it tonight." She grinned at me a little too broadly. I swallowed a lump in my throat, suddenly quite scared for whatever she had in mind.
This is going to be torture.
