The rain was beating down extremely hard on my window panes making it hard to concentrate on anything I was doing. I jumped when I heard a grumble of thunder, then quickly calmed down. I turned on the TV to the news. "Seems like we're going to be getting severe thunder and lighting showers with about 60 mile an hour winds. I advise you all to stay inside if possible. Many will be losing power in the state of New York, so get your batteries out... It's going to be a long night." The meteorologist said into the TV camera and I sighed. Grrrreat.

A bolt of lighting flashed through my window and I plugged my phone in to charge, just in case we lost power. I really didn't want to lose power because it was inconvenient and I was kind-of-sort-of afraid of the dark. No one knew that beside my brother Luke, and my mom. If anyone did find out, my reputation would be down the drain. My mom was on a business trip in the sunny state of Florida, so it was just me and Luke anyways.

Just as I expected the lightning flashed through my window again, and all the electricity vanished. I squealed and ran into Luke's room, through the pitch black. I was quite nervous. I was legitamitly afraid of the dark. "It's alright Grey, I'm right here." He said in his deep, yet caring voice. I blindly reached for him and he touched me then clutched my arm. He turned the flashlight on his phone on, making me relax instantaneously. We stepped out of his room and the stairs were pitch black. I shivered at the sight. "It's okay, I'm right here." He said intertwining his fingers with mine slowly walking down the steps, pointing his flashlight towards the bottom- which at this point looked like the dark abyss of the ocean. He turned on our battery powered lamp when we got downstairs, which immediately illuminated the living room and kitchen. I took a deep breath. "Better?" He grinned. "Yes." I said taking a seat on the counter. His phone began to vibrate. The contact read Harry. "Hello?" He answered. I looked at his blonde hair that was in a perfect quiff and his bright blue eyes. I never really looked at him closely, he was actually pretty handsome. He played with his lip ring as Harry began to speak. I couldn't make out what he was saying exactly.

"Really? Thanks man. We'll be over in a few." Luke said hanging up. "Harry still has power, so we're gonna head over to his place. His parents aren't home. You can go get the stuff you'll need." He said. I slid off the counter and looked at him. "Can you come with me?" I asked looking up at the dark star well. He sighed "Good thing I love you." He said walking up the stairs in front of me.

I grabbed my phone and charger, pajamas, and the Stephen King novel I was reading and put it in a bag. I also brought my toothbrush and hairbrush. "All set?" He asked. I nodded and he grabbed some things in his room. I stopped breathing for a moment. "What was that?" I whispered. "What?" He said in a regular voice. "There is someone here. I can here them breathing" I said slowly backing up rubbing up against someone, as I screamed in terror. "Relax!" He yelled. "That was me." He said holding me. "And, Mandy is asleep, that's 'who' is breathing." He said firmly and annoyed. Mandy was our new puppy. As you can tell, I wasn't quite used to having her yet.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to get mad." He said. "I didn't know you were really that scared. " he breathed out grabbing our jackets and his keys. "It's okay." I said blankly back.

We ran outside in the cold pouring rain. My feet got soaked because all of the puddles, and the trees were rustling like crazy. The short drive to Harry's house felt like hours. Neither Luke nor I talked, the thunder and pounding rain would've drowned out our voices anyway. When we reached Harry's house the front door opened and he ran out. He mercilessly struggled to keep the umbrella in his hands but it flew away within 15 seconds. I laughed lightly before grabbing my bag, opening the car door, and hopping out. Harry's brown curls were draped across his forehead soaking wet and his eyes were squinting.

"Here, I'll take that for you Grey." Harry shouted over the wind while scooping the bag out of my hand. "Thanks." I smiled at him as best I could which was still a weak attempt seeing as there were rain pellets as sharp as razors slicing into my face. We walked up the path to his house, Luke following close behind.
