On Friday, local man Mersault was put on trial for the shooting death of an Arab on the beach. As he entered the courtroom, it seemed like all eyes were on him, but they were only mine. His handsome demeanor filled the room, I was completely breathless. His glittering blue eyes grazed over me, he looked stone-faced. He sat up at the podium, and stared off into the endless distance. I couldn't help but feel sorry for him, sure he killed a man, but his only crime was that perfectly chiseled chin of his. The trial began promptly. The prosecuter began to question Mersault, asking for his name, and details about that fateful night on the seaside. He claimed it was the sun that made him kill the Arab, stunning the entire courtroom. They also questioned his love for his mother. He said he probably loved her, but it didn't matter. After his mother's passing, the topic of some Marie girl came up. Marie was a scrawny and scrappy looking woman who Mersault somehow got hung up with. When it came up that the two were to get married, my heart sank. She didn't seem that important to him, he didn't even look at her. Then another man came to testify. His name was Raymond; a tall, but not as handsome as Mersault, man who had recently became acquainted with him. Something seemed off about him, he claimed to be a warehouse guard, but I wasn't buying it. With his relation to the murdered Arab, I think he was a pimp. After numerous other testimonies by his peers, the prosecuter questioned him more. Through the whole trial, they called him Monsier Anti-Christ, which I thought was very harsh. As it continued, I noticed he began to show more emotion. Finally it was time to hear the sentence. The judge found Mersault guilty of killing the Arab. He was sentenced to death by guillotine. He did not deserve such a harsh punishment, he is so much more human than the court believes! It is not fair! As he was escorted away, I could only stare in disbelief. I only knew him for a short time, but it felt like an eternity. Goodbye my sweet prince. You will be missed.
