  ( saturday )

"so, you quit working for that guy, right?" felix asks ian a few days later. ian wasn't looking for his sister the right way, he wanted to get out of that once he realized it was wrong, but even felix knew it's hard to leave something like that once you're already in it.

"yes, mom, i did. my boss wasn't happy about it, but what man like him would be?" ian replies, shrugging and shoveling a spoon full of cereal into his mouth.

"have you read any of the letters yet?" cole asks felix as he walks into the kitchen.

"no, you can if you want," felix says. he's dying to read them, actually, but he's trying to hold himself back. if ian is going to try to be a better person, felix will try to move on.

"good. i sent them all back to anya's mom." cole says, his face lighting up into a smile.

felix frowns. "what do you mean you sent it back?"

"i sent it back to her mother, felix," he says again, clearer, with no emotion.

ian looks between the two, wondering if an argument will start, but it doesn't. the ringing of felix's phone cuts off the stare down. felix answers quickly, not many people call him these days.

"hello? oh, hi..." the conversation went on for a little bit before cole could make out the distinct tone of a woman's voice, but just as he was recognizing the voice, felix says his goodbyes.

"we'll see you soon then, goodbye." felix finishes his conversation, and ends the call. he slowly sets his phone down on the table. mechanically, painfully.

"well?" cole prompts. ian stays silent. he has a perfect mental picture of who that could've been, and he's only seen pictures of the woman.

"pack your bags, boys, we're leaving for cali," felix answers. cole narrows his eyes, not completely understanding.

felix definitely hadn't missed california he realizes once getting out of his car, in front of the kate residence. ian is almost amazed at the atmosphere, his sister always wanted to come here. cole is silent, and felix knows all too well what he's thinking of, or who. felix didn't expect to ever come in contact with anya's mom, danielle kate, again, but when she called, she sounded desperate, tired, and sad.

"so, why are we here again?" cole questions, obviously not happy with where felix has taken him.

"california, baby! everyone's dream.." ian trails off, still awestruck. ian did mention that he'd been stuck in a small town his whole life, and where they live now isn't that much of a step up.

"danielle is trying to get rid of anya's things," felix says slowly, softly. cole is going to hate him.

"damn, felix! i'm trying to get over her, to forget. to put that shit behind me, but no, you keep coming back, even after you promise you won't. i'm sick of this - sick of you." cole shouts. felix winces, he was expecting that, but not the part that cole think he's coming back to anya.

which, of course he was, he just didn't want to realize.

"well, we're already here, aren't we?" ian says hopefully, trying to get the mood back to how it was on their drive there.

"i can leave whenever i want," cole grumbles, storming off and walking down the street.

"does he know where he's going?" ian furrows his brow, looking extremely confused.

"yes, idiot," felix rolls his eyes, and starts towards the front door. ian just shrugs his shoulders, wishing everything wasn't so complicated with his two friends.
