Chapter 16
(Lizzie’s P.O.V.)
It’s been a month since I woke up from the first nightmare and because of them, I haven’t been able to sleep through the night.
Every night I would wake up sweating, crying and screaming. It had gotten to the point of where bags were visible under my eyes and I didn’t put effort into how I looked. Brandon even noticed the change, but I refused to tell him what was wrong. It always ranged from "I'm just really tired." to "I don't want to talk about it."
The most frightening part about this past month though, was the fact that Tyrone had somehow gotten my number. Text after text after text rolled through. But the one that scared me the most, was the first text he sent.
"Hey bae. Miss me? I heard tht u gt a new man, and that he a cracka... I guess u dnt knw how 2 follow directions. Whats mine is mine, is da rule, and I expect you 2 follow it. I swear, if I hear abt u bein wit that white bitch again, im payin u a visit. And u aint gon like it..."
Every time I think about it, I get shaky and tears start to form in my eyes. I just want to feel calm and safe again.
I sat in my dark room after another nightmare. Sadly my dad wasn't here to soothe me. He had recently been going out with his co-worker a lot, so that left me alone most nights.
This night probably had to be the worst though, because the minute I woke up screaming, I had gotten a phone call. After I had calmed down, I answered it without looking. That was my biggest mistake ever.
"Hello?" I said, my voice still shaky. I heard a deep chuckle that brought deep chills down my spine. It was him.
"Glad to know you awake boo." I could hear the smirk in Tyrone's voice as he spoke. I thought long and hard about hanging up, but for some reason, I just couldn't do it. So instead, I just kept silent.
"I see you ain't gonna speak, so I'll do all the talking." His tone was more serious than I had ever heard it. “I really don’t appreciate you ignoring all my calls and texts. Avoiding me is gonna get you nowhere. So you know what I suggest you do? I suggest you start answering every single call and every single text that I send yo way. Understand?”
Tears rolled down my cheeks as I gulped and nodded. “Yes…”
“Yes what? Nothing has changed, remember that.” He replied his voice thick with anger.
“Yes… sir.” I answered with shame. I can’t believe that I am right back to square one. This move was supposed to get me away from everything in my past. Everything including my mom, the bullies, and especially Tyrone.
“Good girl.” And that was the end of the phone call.

“Hey Liz, can you pass me that pencil next to you.” Kelly asked me but I was so out of it that I didn’t even hear a word she said.
We were at Kelly’s house so she could use me for her next art project. I think she said it was something like, ‘make a portrait of one of your friends and how you think they feel as you draw them.’ I honestly don’t remember, but I agreed just to help out.
“Liz.. Liz!” I jumped out of whatever trance I had and looked at Kelly.
“What?” I asked. She rolled her eyes and reached over me to grab the pencil that was placed by me.
“I asked you to pass me this pencil.” She waved the object in my face and then went back to drawing.
“Oh, sorry.” I mumbled, looking down at my hands that I couldn’t keep still. Kelly sighed stopped drawing momentarily.
