The Struggle for Existence

   I felt her breathing intensify, as my cold hands strangled her. It wasn't my intention to kill her, I just wanted to hurt her. It was a dark September night, I was strolling down the street as I approached an alley way behind burger king. I heard crying, laughter, and screaming. I moved toward the screeches, I turned the corner and there she was, hitting a young child. A middle aged women swung the bat over and over, until the little girl couldn't cry anymore. The little girls face was gushing blood and was swollen. I dropped my food and my half way lit cigarette, and charged towards the women. I looked into her eyes and all I saw was pure evil, I began choking her. she began gasping for air, making weird throat sounds, and trying to remove my hands off of her neck. As she gasped for her last breath I released. I picked up the bat and started wailing on her face, I heard police sirens and looked to my right, where the little girl was knocked out against the side of a building. I threw the bat and picked up the small child and started to run. It didn't take long for the girl to wake up. "Where are you taking me mister?" she asked. "I'm going to take you to my apartment, clean you up and call your parents" I replied still running. We finally made it to my apartment, I got the little girl into the restroom she washed her face and cleaned her hands.  "so where are you from?" I curiously asked. "Woonsocket, Rhode Island." she spat. "What are doing all the way in Lincoln, Rhode Island?" I wondered. "My parents died in a house fire about a year ago, I came out here to live with my uncle Tony." she explained. "Where does your uncle live, its getting awfully late and I should take you home before he wonders." "Sir, my uncle told me to find my own way to survive, that's why I got beat up today." I felt sympathy, I didn't know what to do. "I stole fruit from a cart stand and she chased me and beat me."  I couldn't believe my ears, even if she stole it the women should of gave her a break she's a hungry young child.
