"Here we are" my mom squeals of excitement and anxiety as we drive onto the campus.
The campus looks just as good as it does on the flyers and online. The building is old, yet looks modern. There are hundreds of clumps of freshmen, dressed from head to toe in UCLA clothes, waving and kissing their parents goodbye. The size of the school intimidates me a bit, but hopefully soon I will feel at home. The orientation was short and I sat alone, as usual. A somewhat nice, lady gives me my dorm key and I get on my way. I can already feel the freedom. "I would love to see your room before I leave. I still can't believe my only daughter is already going off to college. I just can not believe it" my mom pouts. Luke follows behind us carrying all my bags still.
"Now just remember everything I told you. I don't want you to do anything that will put your college experience in jeopardy" she said while checking her watch because she had to leave soon.
"It's A34... and we are in the B hall" I tell them. I see a large, yellow painted 'A' on the wall in front of me. "It's just down the hall there" I say directing them to my dorm.
"A34" my mom mumbles under her breath. I turn the key in the white wooden door, and the door slowly swung open, and I gasp. The room is extremely small, with two tiny little beds, and two even smaller desks. Half of the room is covered in heavy metal band posters. The girl laying on the bed next to them has red, curly hair, and dark makeup on, and her pale skin covered in tattoos.
"Hey" the girl says with a smile. "I'm mahogany, LOX for short" she says while sitting up.
"H..Hi... I'm uhm alexia, Lexi for short" I say softly and I rudely choke on my words.
"Welcome to UCLA, where the dorms are small as you can tell, but the parties are outrageous" the curly haired girl grins. My moms jaw just drops and Luke shifts uncomfortably, as they are not used to this behavior. Lox walks over and hugs me. I am kind of shocked by this gesture, but I hug back. I hear a knock at the door, and Luke drops my bags.
"Come in" LOX yells. The door opens and two boys walk inside the room.
Boys...inside of a dorm...on the first day of school? This is unusual. My moms jaw is still in awh because she doesn't know how to react.
"Hey are you mahogany's new roomie?" one of the boys asked. he doesn't have any tattoos, and seems nice.
"Yeah.. my my name is Alexia..--
"Lexi for short" lox interrupts.
"I'm cameron, cam for short. Don't look so nervous though, it throws people off" he smiles. "I'll bet you'll love it here!" his smile was so warm and inviting, unlike his clothes.
"I'm ready guys" lox says, grabbing her black, leather-studded purse from off the bed. My eyes look to the left at the tall, brunette, male figure leaning on the wall. His hair flopped over a bandana with a little blonde bit peeking through the top. My eyes then traveled down his black tee shirt.. then to his arms, which are not covered in tattoos. I expect him to introduce himself, but he doesn't. Instead, he rolls his blue eyes and pulls a cell phone out of the pockets of his skinny jeans. He doesn't seem as friendly as Cameron.
"See ya around Lexi!" cam says and the three of them leave. I let out a long, revealing breath. To say that was uncomfortable would be considered an understatement.
"You are going to get a new dorm right now!" my mom yells as soon as the door shuts.
"No, the university isn't accepting any more dorm requests" I sigh, "it's fine mom" I don't want an overprotective mama bear to ruin my college experience. "I'll just have to work it out with lox and see what happens" my mom lets out a moan and just says "Fine."
Once she leaves, I get my things situated and lay in the bed. All I can do is think about that one blue eyed, nameless kid. Who was he? Why was he so different from LOX and cam? What was so special about him" These are questions I didn't know the answer to, but I intended to find out somehow.
