I woke up, screaming. I had had the nightmare again for the seventh time this week, and it was only Thursday. No, no, it was actually Friday. I remember that now.
Sometimes I'd wake up from the nightmare, go back to sleep, and have the nightmare again. It was the same every time. I still have the nightmare now. Just three nights ago I saw the four-eyed man grabbing my sister and mother in my nightmares. My mother. I miss her so much. She didn't deserve to go. I still haven't seen her... Sorry, sorry. I'm going off topic.
"What time is it?" my girlfriend, roommate, and the biggest mistake of my life, Reece, asked. I checked the clock, rubbing my eyes. "4 in the morning..." I answered, still not over the nightmare. I was about to cry, and I could hear it in my voice. "Ugh! Did you have that nightmare again?" she asked, grumpy and tired. "Yeah..." I said, thinking about whether I should get dressed or go back to sleep. School would start in three hours.
After they took my sister and mother, they brought me to a very strict school where other half or partial beings go. If they had taken my sister here, then I would have known. Every girl has at least one class with another, and if I didn't see her then, then I would have definitely seen her at lunch. I hadn't seen her, so I didn't know what happened to her.
I decided to get up and get ready for school. I gently pulled the thin, white blanket off of me, getting up. "What are you doing now?" Reece asked, yawning, stretching, and then rubbing her hazel eyes. "I'm getting ready for school," I told her, walking to my drawers and pulling out my uniform. The uniform involved a khaki skirt (they couldn't find me the right size this year, and now mine is too short), a white button-down, a blue tie, a navy blue blazer (with a patch on it saying what my mix was), some knee-high white socks, and black shoes.
I slung it all over a chair, watching as Reece got up and walked over to me. She unzipped my nightgown and pulled the straps off of my shoulders, and I felt my face go hot. "Damn, damn, hippity hoppity, Dai!" Reece said, very loud. "Shut up! You'll wake the whole dorm!" my voice cracked. "Let me just get ready for ssschoooool..." I groaned. "Fine," she said, throwing herself on her bed. I sighed, rubbing my face and then letting the gown drop to the floor. I looked in the mirror, taking note of how the faint light looked on the curves of my body. I hated my body at the time. I still do.
I put on my button-down quietly, top button first. I screwed up after doing the whole thing and unbuttoned it. I re-did it and screwed up again. I tried again. "I can do it," she said, chuckling. "N-no! I have it!" I said, messing it up again. "No, you don't," she said. My girlfriend at the time stood up and walked over to me, buttoning my shirt, bottom to top. I remember being angry about that because I didn't like when other people did things for me, and it made me feel weak or less than. "Thanks," I grumbled, looking at her. "Ha!" Reece said, throwing herself on her bed.
I sat down and put on my skirt, which I had just received yesterday (I had also messed up my old one). I slid on my socks, right foot and then the left, being careful not to get it over my ankle bracelet (yes, I had to have one). I just kinda sat there for a while, and my girlfriend went to sleep. I listened to her steady breathing. Then, the lights turned on; we only had one hour before classes. She groaned and rolled off the bed. I finished getting dressed.
After I got dressed, I went to the bathroom. The bathroom was small with blue tiles on three walls; the other wall was just unpainted wood. The floor had white tiles, and a few were cracked. The bathroom looked a bit dirty, but we couldn't clean it off. The sink had a big crack in it that looked like a cat, which sometimes leaked, and the drain sometimes screwed up and we'd have to call Malfoy, our janitor. The shower was quite nasty. The shower head was rusted, and we only got cold water. Also, the water doesn't come out hard enough or fast enough, so it takes a while to get our hair wet and then to rinse whatever is on us. One time I had a mud fight and it took seven whole hours to get everything off.
I brushed my teeth and hair, did my makeup, and then I sort of stared at myself in the mirror for a long time, thinking. Since all of this happened quite a while ago, I don't remember what I was thinking, but it was probably something stupid. "What're you thinking about?" the voice asked. Reece's voice asked. I turned slowly and looked at her and then shook my head. "Just making sure my makeup's good enough," I told her, although I was lying. We'd smile at each other and then I'd leave the bathroom.
I picked up my I.D. thing and clipped it onto my skirt, making sure that the clasp didn't poke holes into it. I checked the clock once again. It was 6:40A.M..
"A few minutes 'til they unlock the doors?" she half-asked.
"I guess."
"I better hurry."
"Yeah."
She would get dressed and ready, and I'd just sit there thinking about one thing, and one thing only. Where'd my family go?
I thought about that until I heard the bell scream, and the click of our room unlocking, and off I went.
