I step into the elevator completely clouded with so many different emotions. My eyes are foggy yet I'm not even crying. I feel like I'm on fire but I'm not even hot. Unsure of my surroundings for a few seconds, I collect myself and look around the elevator. I see a man that looks around my age with thick brown curls in his hair. He's dressed in a black t-shirt and jeans. I notice he's turned toward the wall in the back right corner. I stand near the front of the elevator near the buttons. I wonder to myself if I should keep the space silent or start up conservation. I decide against myself and start talking.
"Nice weather today," I blurt out.
"Hmm."
"New York is always so pretty this time of year."
No response.
"Hello?"
Again, no response.
I see him grab his jacket and put it on along with some sunglasses. The elevator beeps and the door opens. He begins walking but I grab his hoodie and pull it down, once again revealing his curls. Why I did that I have no idea. He instantly turns around and I lock eyes with him. I stare into his bright emerald eyes and get lost. For a few seconds we are silent.
"You have beautiful eyes." I can't believe I just told a complete stranger that he has beautiful eyes. Well, at least I'm not lying to myself anymore.
My thoughts are interrupted.
"Y-you don't know who I am?" He stutters with a thick British accent and this bewildered look on his face.
"A thanks would be nice and no, should I?" I say in a sassy tone.
I hear him mutter something under his breath. He smirks and steps out of the elevator into the lobby.
"Nice to meet you?" I say after him.
"And what a pleasure it was to meet you." I hear him say in a sarcastic voice.
And with that he roams out into the beautiful city we call New York.
