 Lila Mayor Northern Nurse

July 2nd 1863

Lila woke and sighed, rubbing her eyes she knew that soon she'd have to go to work. Yet she really did not feel up to it. Sitting up, she looked around, to her window, the horizon, then at the door, closed, she always got her privacy from her one friend who was also her maid.

She got out of bed and walked to her dresser slipping off her nightgown. Grabbing her blue dress they had to wear she started pulling her hair into a bun like she always had it.Her sea blue eyes scanned herself seeing nothing wrong. She turned and walked to her shoes tying them on. Now she was ready to go. The door opened slowly, the creak in it still there. Her maid slowly walking in.

"You know your allowed in, it's okay Mabel." She smiled and patted her shoulder. Mabel was her friend, and she paid her for her work, she was also a freed slave, who escaped from a plantation. Twice. Mabel had light brown, shoulder length hair which was always pulled up into a bonnet. She always wore a sleek green dress as well, which you could not get in the south for a slave.

"Yes miss Lila, I sometimes forget." she shuffled into the room quickly and nodded her head.

"Your not a slave here, you're my friend and a helper when I get soldiers at my door." She laughed and walked through the hallway to the stairs. finally making a slow journey downstairs. It was a nice house but it was a little bit smaller then a huge mansion, well twice as small. The kitchen was buzzing, always, knowing Mabel loved to cook, she picked up a slice of apple on the counter and counted it as breakfast.

Jack Norwood  Rebel Army 18

July 2nd 1863

Jack was far from home. Hundreds of miles in fact. Pennsylvania was a long way from Arkansas. He and his three brothers had traveled north to join up with the famous Army of Northern Virginia under the command of Robert E Lee. The men's arrival was fueled by a desire for glory and excitement that they felt war would bring.

The battle had gone south fast. Jack's line was overrun by a Yankee charge. Unfortunately he had been wounded. A bayonet had gone through his calf and an officer had shot him in the arm with his pistol. Fear overcame the young man and he dropped his rifle and took off running away from the shooting and violence. It was more like a fast limp than a true run but nonetheless it took all his effort to move.

Eventually he saw a house in the distance and kept going. It looked like a rich man's house but Jack didn't care. He needed help and would ask rich Yankees if need be. The man ran up onto the porch and banged on the door. "I need help! Is anybody home!?" He yelled in his southern accent.

Lila Mayor Northern Nurse

July 2nd 1863

Lila jumped hearing the first knock, or pound if you will. She debated opening the door, looking around she grabbed a small kitchen knife. She was tiny and knew whoever was on the other side of the door would be rather taller and heavier then her.

She walked over and gripped the door nob.

"Mabel!" She called and opened the door. Hearing Mabel rush down the stairs, Lila was surprised to see a soldier, a wounded, soldier. She threw the kitchen knife to the side and looked him over.

"Mabel grab my med kit!!" She yelled over her shoulder and held the door open for him. So he could hobble in. "I'm Lila Mayor, you'll be safe here." She said and kept the door wide open. The young man had brown hair and blue eyes, but she could not really tell if his hair was brown or if he was just too muddy to tell. His uniform was torn and was missing buttons, and he was bleeding all over.
