Duskfall woke up to her old mentor, Deerspeckle, prodding her with a paw. "What?" She muttered. "Do I need to go on patr-" She stopped. Deerspeckle was dead! "Am I in StarClan?"
"Yes." Her mentor answered. "You've died."
"What?!" Duskfall shreiked. "How?"
Deerspeckle looked away. "Just come. I'll tell you when we get to StarClan." She started walking up what appeared to be a trail of stars.
"No! I can't leave my Clan! I just went to sleep! I'm in good health! This is just a nightmare!"
Deerspeckle glanced back at her. "You are dead! You were killed!"
The she-cat stared with wide eyes. "I-I was murdered? By who?"
Deerspeckle looked down. "I don't want to be the one to tell you."
"I won't leave my Clan." Duskfall insisted.
"You can stay until you find your killer." Deerspeckle told her. She knew how stubborn her apprentice could be. "But you can't stay forever."
"Fine!" Duskfall yowled. She blinked.
She was no longer at a trail of stars leading up into the night sky. She was in the warriors den in BrackenClan camp. Was it a dream?
But when she slowly sat up, she discovered, no it wasn't.
She stood over her own dead body. She was just a spirit with a pelt of stars, but it wasn't. It was real.
