Once we made it to the field I tied the horse to a nearby gate.
I walked to my favorite sitting place. Instantly memories of my Grandpa flooded my mind.
"This is where you go every night."
"Yeah. Do you know what this place is?"
Jack shook his head.
"It's where Grandpa would bring me and Sarah every night before the sunset. We would sit here." I pointed to the place where I was just sitting. "And watch the sunset. After, we would go home."
"It's very beautiful."
I nodded. I sat down and began playing with a weed.
Jack stood there looking at the sky.
"I think we better get back home. The sun has already gone down."
I stood up and walked toward the horse. I climbed on and Jack climbed on after me.
"Yip. Click click."
The horse went across the river and through the forest to the barn. I placed him in his stall and got him warm. I went out and Jack was standing there.
"What?" I asked
"Nothing."
We both started walking towards the house. It was getting pretty dark since the sun had come down. I walked towards the house.
"Anna where were you? It's dark out and I wasn't sure you'd make it home." my Mom instantly says as I walk in the door.
"Sorry Mom I lost track of time."
"Get to bed, we need lots of stuff done tomorrow. And I don't want any tired pigs helpin' out."
I headed towards my bedroom. I opened my door and saw that Sarah was already asleep. I quietly opened my door and went to my bed.
I heard the backdoor open.
"Jack. Where were you?" I haven't seen you since after dinner." my mom said.
"Just being in the barn and what not."
"Hurry on to bed, we got lots of work that need to be done tomorrow."
I hear Jack's heavy boots coming my way. I quickly close my eyes. He walked all the way to his bedroom.
I closed my eyes and drifted into sleep.
(Morning)
I got up and went to the shower. I was mess. My hair was all over the place and my face was covered in grease. I took off my clothes and hopped in the warm water.
Grandma had made bacon and eggs. Grandma had this fond of bacon and eggs.
"Hurr and eat. We got work to do." said Mom as she walked into the kitchen.
"What are we going to do?'
"I will go and stock up on groceries." she went over and dished herself some eggs. "We need to collect the eggs and milk the cows. I think Sarah and Charlotte can do that. I need you to help the horse stay in the pasture for a bit. Your dad is coming home tonight."
Sarah and Charlotte came in and started eating.
"Sarah and Charlotte could you please collect the eggs and milk the cows?"
"Yes mom."
I washed my plate and went over to the horse stalls. Jack was there. I stopped to see what he was doing. He was cleaning out an empty horse stall. I kept on walking and grabbed some horse tacks and ropes. I went to each stall and put a tack on the horse and tied a rope on the tack. I grabbed one rope and lead that horse out of his stall, I lead two more other horses out of their stall.Once I had the three horses outside I tied their roped to a gate and went to get the other horses. I lead four more out of their stalls and brought them to a large pasture. I went back to get the other three. After all the horses were in the field but one, I went to the barn and fully dresses the last horse completely. I rode him to the field and let myself in. I rounded up the horses and had them run in the pasture.
After a bit of running the horses grazed on the grass. I led my horse to the barn where I undressed it. I walked it back to the pasture. I sat down in the middle of the field and chewed a weed while I watched the other horses.
After my bum started hurting, I walked over to the fence and sat there, staring at the forest.
"Anna?"
I turned around to see my Grandma
"Bring the horses back in the barn."
I jumped off the fence and grabbed two horses. I walked them to the barn undressed, and put into their stalls. I did the rest to the other horses.
"Do you want help Grandma?" She started walking away as I followed her.
"No, just wanted the horses safe."
She looked up to the sky. Dark clouds covered the sky. I knew how horses were with lightning.
Looks like I'm not going to the field tonight
I walked back to house, grabbed an apple and took a bite out of it.
"Are Sarah and Charlotte done with the chickens and cows?"
"No. Would you like to help them?" asked Grandma
"Of course." I headed towards the barn.
"Sarah? Charlotte?"
Bawk bawk baawk
I could hear the flutter of the chickens wings. I rushed to the den and saw Sarah and Charlotte climbing in.
"Anna?" asked Sarah
"Grandma said to come help."
"Get the milk containers. They're all filled and ready to be brought inside."
Sarah pointed to some milk containers.
"Is there a carrier?"
"Oh. Over there." Sarah pointed to a shelf on the barn. I grabbed a carrier and stuff the milk bottles in.
I walked towards the house and placed the milk down. I noticed my mothers car was back.
"Anna. Your father will be here in an hour. I need to help Grandma get some super ready."
Dad is finally coming home
I haven't seen my dad for ages. My dad doesn't even know about Jack. Dad left after Grandpa died. Mom never told us where he went. I remember the times with dad. Playing little board games he managed to put together. Dad was the one who gave me my riding lessons. He had a huge liking for horses and loved to show me how everything worked with the saddle and tacks. Dad is forever my hero
I cut up carrots and potatoes for the chicken soup. Grandma had been preparing the broth since mom left. We added all the spice and vegetables for the soup and let it cook.
Dad coming home was such a dream. I couldn't believe he was coming home. For almost 14 years I haven't seen my dad.
Sarah and Charlotte came in and pace the basket full of chicken eggs on the table.
"Help us set up the table dads going to be here any minute now. We placed the silverware and mom brought out the nice glass plates. Grandma began pouring soup into the bowls. Mom placed the salad on the plates while me, Sarah, and Charlotte placed the bread on plates and filled the fruits and vegetable baskets.
There was a knock on the door a few minutes after the table was set up.
I rushed to the door and opened it. There, my dad stood we stared into each other's eyes for moment. I managed to grab some words from my throat.
"Dad!"I said softly.
