She ran away far as she could, winded and wounded though she was, she had to get away. Her dress covered in dirt got caught on one of the jagged rocks. She fell and struggled to get up. She couldn't walk. She knew what was coming, and eventually stopped trying. Tears fell down her face as she heard footsteps coming her way. A shadowy figure loomed over her.

Alexis POV
I walked through town, looking for some food. I found a man along the path going through town, he was selling mangos, apples, strawberries, every fruit you can possibly sell. I looked in the small sack that I made from a rag. I only found one gold coin. I walked up to the man. "Hey, what is the cheapest item you sell?", I asked. "Well, let me see.." He said, "Aha! A small bag of strawberries for 5 gold coins!". My jaw practically dropped to the floor. "5 coins?!" I said, "How is it worth 5 coins?!". "Let me explain, these strawberries don't come from these parts, I had to travel miles to get all of this fruit, that's why they're so expensive" He said, "I don't think any food here comes from these parts, hardly anything grows here". I looked down, disappointed that I had to steal from someone again, I don't know why, stealing just doesn't feel right to me. He must have seen my face, because he said, "Tell ya what kid, I'll give this to ya for free, just don't tell my partner, or all hell will be loose". I smiled and nodded my head. He handed me the strawberries and I continued on my way.
I was almost at the cemetary. I was going to visit Momma. When we were at the cemetary, I searched for Momma's grave. I finally found her grave at the back. Her stone said, "Here lies Amelia Bennett, who gave her life for our whole country". I took a knee in from of her grave and even tried to talk to her. "Momma, I miss you so much, I wish you were still here, look, I brought you something" I said. I put half of the strawberries on her grave. I ate my half and imagined she was sitting on the grave, eating her half. I heard rustling behind me. I turned around and saw nothing but The Tree of the Dead. I remembered the legend I heard from women I saw in town.
The Tree of the Dead was a special tree, the legend says that the tree was once a woman, who frequently went through the graveyard, talking to spirits. She felt blessed by their wisdom, and talked to them more often. She even comforted the ones who have just died who were depressed from the absence of their loved ones. She once talked to a spirit so much, that she froze in front of its grave. Plants eventually grew around her, and she was trapped in the tree. The women believed that she was still there, comforting spirits, but they also said that The Tree of the Dead caught evil spirits in its limbs, imprisoning them. I liked that story, I loved all legends, they were fun to listen to.
I turned toward my mother's grave and found something shocking, It was dug up. I became furious, how dare anyone mess with my mother! "Whoever did this...should go to HELL!!!" I yelled. My voice echoed through the cemetary, scaring all of the birds out of sight. I heard footsteps. I turned around and saw a shadowy figure. He had my mother's corpse under his arm. I grabbed the arm he was carrying my mother with and sunk my teeth into his flesh. He tried to pull away, but I wouldn't budge. "Let go ya little brat!" He said. I didn't say anything, I just kept biting. He shook his arm around but I wouldn't let go. I felt severe pain in the back of my neck, blood slightly dripped onto my back. "Kid, If you don't let go, it will get worse!" He said. I finally let go and yelled, "WHAT DO YOU WANT WITH MY MOTHER!!". He pinned me down and held the knife above me. "HEY!! GET OFF OF HER!!" I heard. It was the voice of a girl my age. The man ran away, not wanting to get caught. The girl ran up to me. "Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" She said. She helped me up and gasped when she saw my neck. "Come on, I'll get you fixed up" She said.
