I lay on my couch staring at the ceiling. The sound of my parents laughing in the kitchen whilst making dinner made me feel happy. It made me feel as if I were young again, with no worries at all. School was easy. Everyone was nicer. Life was just easy.
I thought about today and how I had confessed my feelings towards Bruno to Alexa.
I wanted to see Bruno.
I reached for my phone and I texted him.
"Meet at pinkberry in 10?"
Once again he replied instantly.
"I'll see you there."
I grinned, hopping up off the couch.
I rushed into the kitchen.
"Dad can I borrow the car?"
He peered at me for a moment, his eyes squinting.
"Uh sure..keys are on the hook."
I kissed him on the forehead and left after slipping my shoes on.
I dove in the darkness to pinkberry and I got there a minute late because of some traffic. I got out the car and I could already see Bruno standing there outside the store. A cigarette was hanging from his lips and he looked better than ever.
My emotions for him were becoming stronger and stronger scarcely quick.
I approached him and his smile grew so wide.
"Hey." I said.
"Hey." He pulled me into a hug and I didn't think twice about holding him tight.
We pulled away and he threw his cigarette to the ground.
"How is your dad?"
"Dying." I said honestly. "But apart from that he's going great."
We went and got our frozen yoghurt, then we sat outside in the cool night air on a bench under a dim street lamp.
Even when we didn't talk I liked it. Just being with him made me feel so different.
I glanced at him eating his pinkberry. He looked too adorably cute, that I couldn't help but kiss him on the cheek quickly.
You wouldn't even have guessed what he used to be like.. sleeping around with girls, drinking every night, getting into fights.
What I didn't understand was why had he changed so fast all of a sudden?
He turned to me.
"What was that for?" He smiled.
I shrugged and he scooted across the bench closer to me. So close that the sides of our thighs were touching and his arm was slung around my shoulder. I was so warm.
His scent was especially strong with him being so close. I embraced everything.
His touch continued to send shocks of adrenalin through my body.
It felt strange. But so right. This wasn't the irritating asshole guy I knew a few months ago in university who would make the room messy and bring a different girl home with him every night.
This was the real Bruno. The one who I had helped to change and become a better person.
"Idalis?"
"Hm?"
"Can you promise me something?"
I looked up at him, "yes.."
"Whatever happens with you and your family, promise me that you won't push me away."
"Bruno."
"I will be there for you. I don't want to sound corny or anything but I'll be the one that you can come to whenever and wherever you want. I know what it's like to loose family and I had no one there for me. I want someone to be there for you. And I want it to be me."
"Bruno."
I was crying now.
"I promise Bruno."
